I have a very small coop, as my girls (chickens) are free range and are only in the coop at night. They're quite used to 90-115 degree weather in Texas, so I was worried for them when the most recent winter storm came with wind chills of 0. This took 5 mins to set up with an extension cord and I placed it inside the door of their coop, facing their roosting bar. They did not knock it over. I put it on the highest setting, then wrapped the coop with moving blankets. They stayed nice and warm in there for 3 days, no injuries, and their water stayed fluid. 100% would buy again. May not work for large coops, but at that point there's enough space for heat lamps anyway. ... show more

    • It does not produce much heat, My opinion is it works like a heating pad!! I was very disappointed
I don't feel confident enough to have this as a sole heat source during cold weather.

There were some negative reviews on this so I though I’d respond with how this worked for me. I was very worried about my 2 chickens in this VERY cold weather. It was -8 for a solid 24 hours in SW Ohio, very cold for here. My coop is about 6’x6’. I set it up on the max temp setting and had it run all the time inside the coop. I placed it on blocks about 3” above the coop floor. I turned it on when it was in the teens, I also put a tarp around my coop to protect it from the high winds. The temp inside the coop was at least 15 degrees warmer than outside. Normally, the temps are about the same. The picture is after the worst of the low temps, I have a weather station with 5 transmitters. #1 is my garage, #2 against the house, #3 my house, #4 attached to the outside of the chicken pen, #5 inside the coop. I was very pleased with how well this worked, my chickens survived. This worked as intended for me. I only plan to use it when the temps are in the single digits, my chickens survive fine in the teens. ... show more

My 6 hens are less than a year old and when the temps dip to single digits I worry they may frostbite even with good insulation and dry bedding, etc., so I placed one of these in the coop below where they roost at night. It's important to avoid wide swings in temps, hard for them to adjust, so the low heating options (3 levels) give off just a touch of gentle radiant warmth that they can choose to be near or not. I got 2 of these to heat the 4x6 shed my 2 goats sleep in. They're perfect. I hung them on the wall and their little house stayed warm. Billy and Duke stayed sleeping longer than usual telling me I made a good decision. The heaters are smooth like TV screens so there are no heated up wires exposed like little space heaters have which makes them safe for areas with hay for bedding. So I recommend this product. Bought 2 of these for my ducks. Wedont get any real cold weather here, but we had 4 days with temps dropping below 20 at night. These did a great jobof keeping their coup suitable. It wasbt balmy but warm. Thanks form this great product.
