We have these on a small arbor vitae on our patio in place of an indoor tree this year. The 72 foot strand is just right for a 5 foot tree so if your tree is larger you could add the second strand. I plan to use the second strand at our cabin. These lit up out of the box as soon as I covered the solar panel. The lights themselves are very small but surprisingly bright after only a few hours of spotty sunlight. Waiting to see how long they last tonight but so far look great! UPDATE: SUBTRACTING STARS. THE FIRST DAY WE USED THESE THEY LASTED MOST OF THE NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY THEY LASTED A FEW HOURS. I MOVED THEM TO OPTIMIZE SUNLIGHT AND THEY LASTED A FEW HOURS. THEN TONIGHT IN THE SAME LOCATION THEY LASTED LESS THAN AN HOUR. I CAN ONLY ASSUME ONCE THE FACTORY CHARGE WEARS OUT THE BATTERIES DO NOT CHARGE EVEN AFTER SUN ALL DAY. VERY DISAPPOINTING AS THEY LOOK VERY PRETTY FOR THE FLEETING TIME THEY WORK. BUT NOT EVEN WORTH CALLING THEM A CHRISTMAS DECORATION ESPECIALLY FOR THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY. I THINK I WILL BE RETURNING THEM. ☹️ Update: on a decent sunny day you can get a few hours out if these. I am enjoying them on our split rail fences. Just make sure you optimize the panel placement. This is the second time I've purchased lights like this. As they were shipped, the last set lasted me 3 winters, while also being used during the summer the last 2 years. This last summer they stopped turning on, having had them for awhile, and wanting to expand a bit on my lights, I decided to purchase another set. I do wish there was some sort of easier way to select the patterns, but that's a minor detail to me, they're easy enough to match up just switching the power off and on again. They do get a bit overshadowed by the lights I have on my inside windows, however, I recently discovered that they do not ship full of batteries. The compartment has room for 3 Rechargeable AA batteries, but only includes 1 on shipment. Now, the image I posted is both sets of lights with only one battery charged. ( I just purchased new batteries tonight and don't want to insert them before they can be charged during the day) The lights come on and hold their current level of brightness for about 4-5 hours. Around the 6 hours mark they are noticeably dimmer, and around the 8 hour mark they are off for the night. That said, I still love these on my house, even with only one battery in them, I'll be installing more batteries tomorrow and hoping they get a bit brighter, but won't complain if they don't. ... show more

We bought these for our mini tree growing in the back yard. It’s about 6 foot tall with full branches. This was just the right amount of lights. We enjoyed coming home to see the tree lit up. Highly recommend.

    • Pretty lights, but the solar charge does not last long

We bought a string of 72 solar powered fairy lights several years ago, and they have been great. On sunny days, the solar battery charges enough to last all night, and the batteries charge enough to last a few hours even on the cloudiest, snowy or rainy day. I wanted to get a 2nd string of the same lights to add to the display, but the lights we bought before are no longer available. The new string of 72 lights looks exactly the same as the previous lights, so they work in the display; but the solar panel is a little bit different. Even though we put the exact same solar rechargeable batteries into the boxes for both strings, the older string still lasts all night, but the new one lasts only a few hours at best, and it doesn't charge at all on cloudy, dreary days. Perhaps it is just a difference between two strings, but I think it is more likely the solar panel for this new string isn't as good as for the previous string. I would still recommend these, because they do work and they are very pretty, but buyers should be aware they may not stay on for more than a few hours even after the sunniest day. Overall, I'm impressed with these lights. I bought several colors, and the strings are nice and long, and the solar panels are easy to assemble (and they work right away!) It's a lot of lights for a really good price. My only complaint is how dim the lights are. Led bulbs are usually known for being brighter than filament lights, and even though these bulbs are smaller than regular lights,I figured that was because they didn't need to be large. But all three colors we hung up outside (red, green, and blue) are so dim they are hard to see if you're not really looking. Christmas lights should be boldly visible, but these are not. They are still nice lights, and have many blinking modes, but they're just not bright. (And I live in the high plains of New Mexico, so we don't lack sunlight for the solar panels!) ... show more
