The Safe arrived this morning in a fantastically sturdy box with handles. There is no damage to the safe that I can see, and I am happy about that. I suggest completing the Set Up BEFORE you stick the Safe in a tight spot. Both the Reset button and Battery Compartment require the door to be open almost all the way to be able to access them. First I had to pop open the key compartment. It is covered by a small plastic cover about an inch across. (It is a cheap and cheesy little piece that will probably end up somewhere else before long, accidentally or on purpose.) Simply press that little plastic piece on the left side and it pops off, revealing the key slot. The Instructions say insert key, make sure it is all the way in, and turn it counterclockwise while also turning the door knob counterclockwise. But for me it was turn the key to the left while turning the knob to the right. I mention this so you don’t feel that prickle of panic if you follow the Instructions without getting the door open the first time. The battery compartment is in the door, so that if the door were full open, you would see the battery compartment just below the Reset button. To open the compartment, slide downward and the front pops off. The batteries were really tricky and did not work for me the first three times..I know, because the next step is pushing the Reset button, and mine was dead. I kept playing with the batteries, but they are an extremely tight fit and I was losing hope when Finally it worked. I heard the beep. Yay! I am already dreading the first time I have to change the batteries, because the compartment is awkward, tight and difficult. Setting the new code was super easy once the batteries kicked in. So now all I have left to do is bolt the safe down with the lag bolts that were included.

This safe if not only just what I wanted, but more. It is small, was easy to set up and secure, and is very easy to use with backup keys and more space inside than I suspected.

Pleasantly surprised with the safe. Nice and solid design. Keypad and locking mechanism feel solid unlike some competitors who will make attractive but cheap door components. Interior is very well designed. I was surprised at just how cheap some of the interior lock boxes and shelves were in other safes I ordered and had to return. Very happy with this one.

We like the size and the removable shelves. However the key pad did not work after inserting the batteries. The battery case was not installed squarely and we had to break off some tabs to fully install the batteries. Only then did the key pad work. Also the felt padding material on upper edge of the door hits the opening frame. No quality control. Minor issues in all.

UPDATE:: After I wrote the review (below) the company reached out to me, and apologized for the poor electronics. Told me not to worry about my return… that they wanted to send me a new safe. I accepted their new safe, and the new one works great! Electronics fit right, and we’re in good working order! Sometimes things fail, but when companies go above and beyond to fix there mistakes is the difference between a company that just wants money and a company that wants a customer. I left my old review up, but I have changed the stars to 5 and will say buy with confidence, as this company stands behind their products and makes things right by their customers! Right size! Looks good! Great Price!… electronics were junk! Cheap and did not work… therefore the whole thing becomes just an overweight… paper weight! Sooo many reasons to say yes… I hard reason to say NO! Do not recommend, unless controls are upgraded!

I bought this document safe because my local bank branch closed and I lost my safe-deposit box. I needed a fire-proof place to keep important docs, and this looked like a good option, at a price that was about twice my annual safe deposit rental. So far so good. I think it's going to work (just unloaded and set it up), but there are a few things that annoyed me. Here they are, in order of importance: (1) You cannot lay letter-sized (American) document flat on the shelf and close the door. This is a major design flaw. I have about at 2 inch high stack of documents...if I lay them flat on the shelf the door will not close. So I had to fold them up...major annoyance. (2) The picture on Amazon, the product website, and on the paper user manual all show two adjustable shelves, but my safe only came with one. (3) Installing the batteries was a bit fidgety. The battery compartment seems to be slightly off-square, so inserting the fourth battery took some persuasion. Note also, that there is no indicator to let you know you have installed them correctly.
