I have bought Thule racks forever. At least the last 20 plus years. Every new car I buy gets a new footprint kit and sometimes a new fairing. I love Thule. Won't consider anything else. Even bought a hitch rack for my other car. Again love Thule. Now these load bars. They stink. So they replaced the old square bars that were fully closed metal from end to end. This new bar is multi-purpose but it whistles while driving down the road. I have a footprint kit specific to my car. I insert these new multi-purpose bars and they look to be made for factory roof racks with rails as the ends are open underneath for the last 6-8 inches or so they aren't closed all the way around. I verified with the Thule website this was the correct part. So I install them and everything looks sweet on my freshly cleaned car. Go to pick up the kids from soccer and the entire drive loud whistling coming from the open slots in the underside of the bars. Now I am out $120 plus and cannot use the load bars due to the loud whistling. Who wants to listen to that driving down the road. It was so annoying I would rather listen to screaming kids driving down the road!!! So for anyone asking I verified I got the right part for my car, the only option the Thule website offers, I installed them correctly, all parts were tight and secure before driving everything was properly installed. I used the same rack the same fairing, the same footprint kit made for my specific car as I only swapped out old rusty load bars for this new slotted multi=purpose model. Like I said I have been using this or similar rack from Thule for 20 plus years. These load bars are a nightmare. Bring back the totally closed load bars that are solid construction all around from end to end with no openings or slots. Man how cool would it be if Thule reached out to help me exchange this nightmare and they had one last set of the old style load bars they could send me. That would be customer service supporting loyal customers. Would I buy again, absolutely not. Poor design trying to fit multiple applications in one part. It isn't universal quit being so cheap. I can loan these to you and you can whistle your way to your next destination!

Bought a new car, and of course needed a new roof rack because THULE would not provide a fit based on my old THULE roofrack. THULE likes to entirely redesign every few years, to force you to by an entirely new rack. The insult to injury is that these new SQUAREBARS are entirely inferior to the old solid bars in every way. The old square bars were entirely plastic coated (end caps), and the new ones are hollow with open channels. As they are steel they are open to the weather and will rust internally and ultimately fail. The biggest issue is that the open channel underneath whistles loudly at ANY speed, and sounds horrendous. No weather strip was provided to seal this channel. This is a failed design.

It’s tight but these do fit the 480R; zero tolerance to keep things solid. Check the ‘channel’ of these bars if you don’t immediately find the end caps. Mine were slid in there for shipping. The channels do not have the sliding guides/stoppers that you see in installation videos of other Thule crossbars. And the ‘guide numbers’ mentioned were also wrong for my vehicle. Finally, I referenced the guide numbers on the fit kit. Front was accurate. But I had to add +2 on each side for the rear. Note, the clamp of the fit kit needs to be very loose to get this right; almost to the point of falling off. But once tightened it’s all solid. No ‘whistle’ at 50Mph or slower on surface roads. TBD if it’s quiet at higher speeds. In contrast, Aeroblades on a different vehicle have a whistle even at low speeds; go figure.

I got these from Amazon. Box looked to be re-taped on one end. The end caps were missing. Called Thule and they are on back order and supposed to send me a set. The bars are pretty sharp w o them. The bars are good and strong and fit well. My only complaint is they are very noisy. I didn't think it would be noticeable but on my dodge caravan they start singing at 25 MPH. If this isn't an issue for you then no worries. It started to bother me so i sent them back for an aero pair. The Aero's are twice the price.

Package came taped up and damaged which may explain why one of the Thule end caps was missing. I only got 3. You know what a headache it would be to try to return this, reorder or simply get someone to send me the missing cap??? Sucks.

Thule box was horribly weathered/damaged as well as opened. Bars are scratched and damaged. Only included one end cap, and no kit or instructions at all. Incredibly frustrating given that I paid full price for a BRAND NEW set of bars.

I was driving down the highway when the bar (which had aparently rusted through) broke in half. Save for a bow line from my kayak to the front of the car, it would have been a tragedy. I ordered new bars becuase i have to move a kayak right way but then i called Thule and told them about it. Saddly, they told me bars arent suposed to stay on your car but only be put on for use or short durations and that with the new EVO bars I should put a piece of take over the groove on the bottom to keep them from whistling. Very disappointed. I will look into a safer option that i can leave on the car all the time for a new rack. To be clear, I did have the bars on my Suburu since 2012 or 2013.

I thought the end caps were missing at first but they were just inside the ends of the bar. However they look like they’ve already spent a season or two on the road. Packaging was all beat up and the product isn’t much better. Paid full price for something that looks like it’s been used. I’m not going to go thru the hassle of shipping them back and waiting for a refund. I’m going to use them anyway but it would have been nice to have the brand new rack I paid for.
