Top Amazon Reviews

  • Nice price - hard to get them working on my Win 8.1 PC/ Windows 10
Style: Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack PC
So far not good. Hoping to come back later and give more stars. 1. Installation is my main problem. The MDF's are only partially installed. They work ok in my game Elite Dangerous after a bit of setup with Target. But when not in the game they cycle every couple of seconds like a device being installed. LEDs flash and I get the windows sound associated with new device. Strange that they are OK in the game. 2. The Target software looks painful - have not tried to make button assignments in target. Using the ED options to assigne buttons. I hope to use target later for some sequence events. But not going to try until install is fixed. 3. Web site pretty weak. Has some basics but the FAQ must not have much of a database as I could not get it to find any subject manner on my issue. 4. Did email to tech support but with Easter weekend don't expect a reply for a few days. Nature of that support will move the stars or keep them at One. 5. Very disappointed that some of the LED lighting does not end up on the insert. You can print a decent ones using the site/Target but its almost impossible to read if you like to game the way I do with low background lights. Have seen were some folks have put photo display in to make for a very nice display. If I stay committed to the game and get the install fixed I might venture that way or add some LED's to light up the insert. 6. Still thinking about how I will mount them - as Elite is my only flight game in the past decade I am still working out my cockpit. Am using them with the Saitek 55 joystick/throttle. 7. The supplied software drivers seem to suggest this is 2009 tech - makes me a bit nervous that the install will be fixed in my 8.1 machine and work with Win 10. Since they not working well right now guess I will throw them on my Win 10 Preview setup and see what the future might hold. 8. Hopefully I will have an update next week with more stars. I can see getting to a 4 for sure if it works - the price might justify a 5 star rating IF my install issues are fixed and I find it works on Win 10 OK. If working the only real draw back will be the difficulty of reading the tags for each button and the cost of improving the visibility of those tags. With 50 buttons no way I will be able to remember all the assignments - as a minimum will need a handy flashlight:) First update: 1. Tried on Win 10 and have same problem as on my 8.1 machine. 2. Some internet search's suggest the issue may be that win 8.1 turns off USB devices when not in use. Tried to change this with the properties in device manager - no luck. 3. No return email from tech support yet. Update: 1. Changed from 1 star to 3. 2.. Tech support reply was very slow - two weeks before I got an answer. First reply they wanted me to prove I purchased product and a couple of misc questions. 3. My issue does relate to how Win 8.1 and current build of Win 10 handle USB devices and attempt to save power. There is a Win 8.1 option to have the power on constantly but that did not work - did not check my Win 10 build to see if they fixed that. 4. The "solution" is to follow a Microsoft knowledge article and do some work in Regedit. Little tricky to follow as I had generated about a dozen instances of the devices with my plugging into all my USB ports trying to get it to work. But the fix was successful. Not sure if I can post links to that here but this is the address of the MS info. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2900614/en-us 5. Why it took two weeks for tech support to send me what is clearly a common template reponse was mystery. So I called into the tech support hotline. They could not answer my problem (the person who knows not a work that day) but I did come to understand the poor response due to holidays and high tech support due to some recent new products. My phone call was answered pretty quickly but it sure did not seem like the person who answered could have solved any problem. 6. The TARGET software to customize the buttons has proven to be too confusing for my simple mind. So far lucky for me the game I am playing does good job of letting me set up buttons. I would like to have some buttons that do multiple steps - I will need to learn the TARGET software to make that happen. 7. The poor support, the fact that I should have been able to find the fix on the web site and the difficulty of using the TARGET software account for the 3 star - the product itself is a 4 or higher. 8. I did purchase a USB monitor that serves as the back lite for the two MFD's. I have images I created of the button assignments on that screen. Update: Win 10 Build 10532 - this build killed the regedit work that I had performed to get these working. Back to flashing. Thrustmaster site has nothing - they have given up supporting this - don't expect they will ever provide a driver. Find another product - don't buy these - nice but what a giant pain in neck. I am looking for replacement now - it will not now or ever be a Thrustmaster product. UpDate: Win 10 - did a clean install of Windows 10 on my computer. Would give it 5 stars now - but it's been such a pain that I am not going to - but happy days are here again:) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FE690DI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - this is the USB monitor that I have mounted my MFD's on. I created an image in Photoshop that I use for the background for this monitor. I built the image starting with the Thrustmaster software I found on their site. UpDate: Win 10 - November 2015 update - smiles are gone. Stars are gone - Back to flashing and beeping. Still works fine once I launch my Game, but the beeping every second and flashing when not in the game is real killer. Have looked hard for a replacement product, but have had no luck. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Update: Went back to the Thrustmaster site and re-installed the Feb 2015 software. Back to no beeps - no flashing - all smiles. Hope it says this way! The link should take you to the download for the software. http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=298&cid=1 ... show more

  • ADDS GREAT IMMERSION IN AN AFFORDABLE WAY!
Style: Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack PC
These MFD's (comes with two) Add quite a bit of Immersion to my games and simulators! But, the best part is that it does it in a very subtle way! Better still:, Is that it free's up a few buttons on my Warthog H.O.T.A.S. as well(my flight stick and throttle), Which allows me to map more important things onto my HOTAS. Which allows me to say: Enter a dogfight in my F/A-18C in DCS-World by hitting a single button to drop my fuel tank(s) without having to "look down" at ym keyboard and put my fingers on the specific keyboard controls and then push them! The 2.5 seconds or so it takes to press those keyboard commands is ALL another player needs to lock his radar and fire a missile my way, thus putting myself at a SEVERE DISADVANTAGE by forcing me to fly evasively and defensively when everyone knows in a combat mission, you need to be able to keep your eyes out of the cockpit and looking around the sky for threats just as much as you search with your radar! And I use my Cougar-MFD's when flying ANY Aircraft that has Multi-Function (Color) Displays and it's especially helpful for navigating quickly to the proper display page in Simulators like the D.C.S. A-10C "Warthog" or their KA-50 "Black-Shark" helicopter which has it's own version of an MFD with it's "ABRIS SYSTEM" Which consists of it's Target Data Display and Navigational screens and/or Map Display System. I even find myself using these MFD's in other games as well!, like when Flying an F-16 in "Falcon BMS 4.33" Or Even when using the MFD buttons for the Remote-weapon controls for the armored vehicles in "Arma-3" with it's new "TANKS" DLC. I've even found it helpful for hotkeys in other games that recognize it. i use the bottom Row of one MFD to select ammo-types in Warthunder for it's "Tanks" gameplay. As well as others like Euro-Truck Simulator and American-Truck Simulator, as easily accessible buttons to quickly get me to specific pages on my "Dashboard Mounted GPS." In Short, the sheer Competitive edge and/or Potential that these MFD's offer the average gamer or simulated racing or Flight simulator enthusiast is only limited by their ability to visualize or imagine uses for it within their Simulators and Games! Better still, is that they're a steal for amount of immersion that they add! As an example of that point: I spent over $130 dollars on the "Track I.R.-5" Infrared Head-Tracking System, (Allowing me to move my head in real life which serves to control my Simulated pilot's ability to look around within the cockpit or simulation.) And it helps to mimic that feeling of actually being in the cockpit or behind the wheel! A little tip: Thrustmaster, If you read these reviews, you should seriously get into the market of manufacturing these with real color displays before someone else corner's that market and makes something with less plastic at only slightly higher price point!,SO MANY Flight simulator pilots as well as Racing enthusiasts would JUMP AT THE CHANCE to get their hands on a set of fully functional MFCD's that only costs them a little bit more than having to foot the bill of making a set for themselves!the cost of soldering equipment and connectors and wires and things from Amazon. Already simulations like "Falcon BMS 4.33" has a simple and easy way to extract the images from the MFD images eithin their simulator! And that allows savvy Sim pilots to display their combat-Radar as well as their waypoints and whatnot ONTO an external 4-inch by 4-inch screen which allows the enthusiast to see much more clearly whats going on inside their cockpit without having to squint or look down for an unnecessary length of time in order to find and lock targets or input targeting data and take their eyes off the sky in front of them! It could honestly be as popular as the Warthog stick! And offering these one's without the MFD's would allow Sim enthusiasts to experience them for a decent price-range which would (at least for me) allow them to ineract with the MFD's without display, which would allow them to use the MFD's while enticing them to upgrade or purchase the full or expanded edition of these MFD's. In Closing these are a great product and they have way more functionality than you would originally think they do! And equally exciting is you can make them into FULLY FUNCTIONING DISPLAYS with a little bit of elbow-grease and some parts you can buy right here on Amazon! ... show more
