This makes perfect popcorn each time. Once you figure out the correct popping time with your microwave, you won't be disappointed. There are virtually no unpopped kernals left behind and I love that it gives you that old school popcorn without the yucky film from the microwave popcorn bags. It's very easy to use, it fits perfectly in my small microwave, and my popcorn isn't burnt. After popping it, carefully remove it with two oven mitts because the silicone bowl will be hot! Then add you favorite toppings. I spritz mine with "I can't believe it's not butter" spray, a little garlic salt and a dash of cayenne pepper. I use it at least 3 times a week. I love it! I have a Panasonic 1250 watt microwave and found that this tub works well at 2:50 on the timer, at full power. One Star deduct for the fact that, when I use 1/3 cup of Jolly Time popcorn (which takes it up to the lower line level inside the popper, that it always leaves about 2-3 tsp of unpopped kernels. After removing the popped kernels, I can put the unpopped back in for another minute or so and get most of them to pop. Well, what if I just extend the original cooking time? Although I have not tried it, I fear or suspect that it might start burning the already popped kernels. I do not use oil, since that would be counterproductive to why I bought this to begin with. I don't understand why the rest of the kernels don't pop in the original time frame, but am willing to live with the wasted kernels, since using this is so easy, hassle free, and needing no cleanup afterwards, beyond wiping the insides with a paper towel. 1/3 cup of kernels is just right to completely fill this tub, but to make larger batches for movie night for several viewers, I have to resort to my Stir Crazy, which uses 1 cup of kernels to produce two large movie theater style popcorn tubs. I would have to do 3 batches in the HOTPOP to equal that, which becomes less convenient than the Stir Crazy (which requires 2-3 Tbsp of oil to pop 99% of the Jolly Time kernels. After seeing a lot of 1 Star reviews, I do not trust them at all and think some reviewers purposely fabricate sabotage reviews or false reviews for reasons that I can't fathom. When used as directed and following advice to do test runs on length of time to microwave successfully in whatever microwave one owns, this tub performs pretty efficiently and does not burn the popcorn. I think most people can set their timer for 3 minutes or 3 plus 15 seconds and then standby to listen for the signs that kernels have pretty much stopped popping and noting the time left, to be subtracted from their starting time, to establish the optimum time to set the timer in the future. Generally when popping lapses reach 3-5 seconds of silence, its time to open the door and remove the tub. At that point, all but 1-2 tsp will be left unpopped. One thing I noticed which surprised me was how hot the HOTPOP tub gets (on the handles as well as the body of the tub). It is manageable after one tub is popped, but if you do tubs in succession for more than one tub, the handles get too hot to handle without using pot holders. So something in the chemical composition of the silicone is causing the tub to react to the microwaves and heat in response. This can sometimes also be noticed when microwaving things in glass cookware, such as Corningware bowls. I don't know whether that is a negative thing with the HOTPOP, as regards to health, but I suspect that it is harmless since I don't think that there can be any transfer of the tubs substance to things that are heated in the dry environment of no oils to leach from the tub to the popcorn. As a former restaurant owner I was, and am keenly focused on food safety (not using any aluminum cookware especially, since the jury is out on whether aluminum can leach into liquids cooked with acidic ingredients such as tomatoes etc). So for me, if it isn't stainless steel, I am not cooking in it. But when it comes to a product like this, I think it is most likely a safe situation. Other reviewers keep mentioning the failure of the pinch test to determine if something is 100% silicone. I am not convinced that is the absolute barometer one should use in judging all of the various brands of competing microwave popping tubs. So many of the brands pledge on a stack of bibles that they are 100% pure silicone, but when you read reviews on every one of them, there are plenty of naysayers out there in the 1 and 2 Star review categories that claim and show through pictures that the pinch test revealed the inclusion of non-silicone ingredients. Something is not right on this point. Is the pinch test really relevant at all or are the manufacturers flat out lying, or are the reviewers not being entirely honest. For me, in the big picture of all this, I think it is a worthless attribute to focus on, without empirical evidence through destruction testing to define what exactly is in a specific product, if it is not pure 100% silicone. And lastly, as regards to the safety of silicone, we should be mindful of the fact that silicone breast implants have been proven to be extremely injurious to the health of women who have had silicone leaking into the system from failed implants. So who is to say that it is save in a situation like a microwave popper. I thing it is all a bunch of false noise and will feel entirely comfortable using this popper or other brands that are the most popular on the market. I was surprised to really love this. It works perfectly, collapses down to a size that can be tucked away in my tiny kitchen, and it has me both eating more popcorn and experimenting with creating popcorn flavors. I use the 365 organic yellow popcorn kernels (that exact name — NOT the heirloom one, which has bad reviews). 1 Tbsp of kernels yields a little less than 2C popcorn. METHOD I expand the popcorn maker, add 2T-3T of dry kernels, put the lid on, and microwave for around 2:50 minutes (should not take more than 3:00 minutes… I usually just hit 3 and stop it when there are longer pauses between pops and it smells done). It comes out perfectly, and there are typically 5 or less unpopped/underpopped kernels in the batch. I like to prepare my seasoning separately ahead of time (melted butter and spices) so it’s ready to go when the popcorn is hot, then dump everything together in a larger mixing bowl and toss. This means the popper stays dry… by not mixing toppings in the popper, I can ensure it’s super easy to clean/keep clean and I avoid discoloring, degrading, or damaging the silicone material by not letting it come into contact with oils or spices. Mistakes I believe some angry reviewers were making: - ALWAYS make sure you’ve placed it on your microwave turntable platter in a way that the popper can rotate (and DO NOT walk away until you observe it rotating), otherwise there will be dangerously concentrated hot spots and it will be a fire hazard… this is not a fault of the product, but rather the physics of how microwaves work and that dry popcorn is dry (like tinder). If any part of the popper is touching the door or one of the walls of the microwave, it will likely get stuck and not be able to rotate with the turntable platter. - Not using the lid. You need the lid so it can trap heat and steam and finish popping your kernels. Microwaves heat super unevenly, the lid (and empty space under the popper) help trap heat so the kernels can receive much more uniform heat than they would get if you did something like put kernels on a plate. The lid also helps keep kernels in the popper. - Cooking too much popcorn at once. I don’t think this can handle more than 4Tbsp (1/4C) of kernels, but 2-3 Tbsp is my go-to . And let’s be honest — popcorn is best when it’s hot, and it will only take you 5 seconds to throw in a second batch when the first one comes out. - Having weird settings on their microwave / not paying attention to popping sounds. If your microwave is set to low power or not functioning properly, your cook time and experience is likely to be wacky. So if it’s not cooking within 3 minutes, consider turning up the power on your microwave (find instructions online for your model if you can’t figure it out). If it’s looking or smelling burnt before 2:50, listen to the pops and figure out the sweet spot when you start hearing 5 seconds or so between pops (in all my years of microwaving popcorn, the average range for microwave popcorn doneness seems to be 2:35-2:50 depending on the microwave). If there are a lot of unpopped kernels, that likely is some combination of your cook time and your microwave’s power settings. I LOVE this thing! Its so easy to use & pretty much pops all the kernels. Very satisfying & haven't burnt any yet! Its also easy to store too...just flatten. I use a different bowl to eat out of as I only rinse & dry this to use again. Butter & salt I feel would effect the silicone durability?

Used it once so far & REALLY like it. Easy to store, prepare, wash. I used higher-end brand corn kernels & 3 small foodservice servings of butter/margarine. It popped perfectly, even though I dumped in WAY too many kernels! So I ate the popped kernels, put back in - repeat, repeat - and it NEVER burned any & popped all but about 8 kernels! I thought this is amazing! Taste was good, yet not as good nor popped kernels as big, as my $kinnyPop bagged popped popcorn❣️ But of course the price was SO much LESS than SkPop. I am animate about NOT using any plastic type things in my microwave, so, soon, I hope to learn the TRUE facts about this product & the chemicals released into my popcorn. That will determine the quality for me.

I've got an Air Popcorn machine from the 1980's which still works very well. However, I wanted to give this a try in my Microwave and it works exactly as advertised. Just make sure you read the instructions and DO NOT overload it. It makes excellent popcorn and I do recommend it. Especially for kids to use.
