    • A good and enjoyable series, although a bit complicated with so many main characters.

I enjoy Nathan Hystad’s books, and have read several of his series-stories. The Glass is another that sits in the good to very good category. It is a unique take on all sorts of SciFi things. It is pre-post-mid apocalypse, current area all at once. The action is good and the character building through. The ending is also developed thoroughly, which is a bit rare in SciFi. The one negative that I would note is that there are far too many main, or prime characters and too many point-of-view characters. There are 6 POV people, all interwoven throughout the story. Add to those the dozen or so major, event-driving characters, and the multiple iterations of many. (One of the 6 has something like 35 iterations, with at least 4 being featured in various parts of the story, sometimes 2 of them at once.) Trying to track that many people simultaneously makes the story a bit difficult to track, once it really gets going. ... show more

    • The end of the world...

But I a way that never would have occurred to me. The only problem with the storytelling was that almost every time a rifle was mentioned, it was called an assault rifle. A small thing to pick at, but I really couldn't find anything else to complain about. Read the books.

I like it. The story is engaging and unfolds at a good pace. I care about all the characters. I'm sure I 'll finish. But I can't hold back venting about the editing. Sometimes it's good to go with a $5 word when it's more precisely on point than the 25 cent word. But when you choose a $5 word that isn't even the right word, you only use it because you mistakenly believe it makes you sound smart, well that's just sad. A writer who relies on a thesaurus too much and a dictionary too little, is a writer in trouble. Finished Book 2. The tortured English has gotten worse. Sometimes, I can't even guess at the writer's intent, the word or phrase is so poorly chosen. Gonna read something else, take a break, maybe come back later. ... show more

I’m not generally a fan of dystopian futures nor dimensional constructs but this book really captured my imagination and Nathan Hystad’s story telling as well as character development just kept my interest alive throughout the three volumes. I would recommend it to anyone interested in great science fiction as well as its characters grounded so well in realistic interactions. ... show more

The Glass: The Complete Series is a compilation of three books. I really liked how the series started. It is an interesting take on multi dimensional travel and alien invasion. I was ready to give it five stars reading the first book of the series. From there, however, the quality of the writing went downhill. It began to get more difficult to follow the plot and what was going on. By the time I got to the third book, it read more like something that was written with AI, than by an actual author. I found myself skimming the pages because I really did want to find out how the story ended. It was just very difficult to read it. I don’t know it was written using AI and I’m not accusing the author of anything. But there is a stark difference between the first two thirds of the story and the last third. ... show more
