He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable. Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows. Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed. From bestselling author B.A. Paris comes the gripping thriller and international phenomenon Behind Closed Doors. Read more

  • A good suspenseful story about a different kind of abuse
I thought this story was very good . It held my interest, and was full of emotional ups and downs. I would recommend it to anyone who was ever in a relationship that made them feel controlled by their partner. Good reading!

  • Shocking
This book was very dark and tackled an incredibly difficult subject—it was hard to digest at times. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. From the beginning, I sensed something was off about Jack and Grace’s relationship, especially with how quickly he pushed for marriage. His eagerness felt unsettling, and as the story unfolded, it confirmed my suspicions in a chilling way. ... show more

  • One Bad Lawyer
So much planning in this book. The author really did a great job. Almost didn't finish as was appalled by the cruelty. But the red room fulfilled its function.

  • Many triggers and a bit unrealistic
*spoilers* I decided to read this book because of Booktok and because I enjoyed the twist in The Therapist. First off, this can be a triggering book for anyone who is a survivor of domestic abuse so be aware. And even if you are not survivor, it’s still pretty disturbing. I didn’t enjoy that the book flipped between past and present for the entire book. Once it got to what I guess would be the climax, I think the book should have stayed in the present. While other readers don’t believe the plot is plausible. I will say that generally many survivors talk about how they are not believed especially if their abuser is famous, well liked, rich, and just seems like a “good man”. Many abusers are good at manipulating their victims but also others around them. However, what I do not find plausible is the fact that not a single person believed her aside from Esther and even then it wasn’t until she caught Jack in a lie and she never acted on it. It was especially odd that Esther did not act on it after learning that Grace does not have a cellphone and she shares an email with Jack which is revealed early on in the book. I would have loved to see one person believe Grace and try to help her escape. Not just believe her at the end. I agree with other reviews that say we needed a better ending. I think it would have been interesting if somehow the real person Jack was and everything he’s done was revealed to the public and to see a glimpse of Millie and Grace living happily. Perhaps in his death, it’s revealed that his name is not Jack Angel and that unravels his web of lies and crimes. I also found the way Grace drugged Jack to be a bit too easy. He noticed and was ahead of every escape attempt down to the one using the hair clip but somehow he didn’t notice her putting powder into a glass? Overall an ok book but could be better. I only kept reading because I was curious to know how she would escape. ... show more

  • behind closed doors
Very good read. There were a few slow spots on and off but the end is very good. There are people who truly listen and then question how someone answers

  • Good read
I wonder how many women can relate to so many similarities in their own controlling relationships with men who are a milder variation of Jack. Hmmmm

  • wow what a book
Very well written but difficult subject matter. I was on the edge of my seat especially knowing that this does happen in real life and we need to be more aware of the signs.

  • Psycho Thriller
Barely able to put this down, the truth so cleverly hidden, and the horror of one woman's reality after falling for such a deceptive act. The hardest part to believe is the whirlwind courtship.
