Description

A number-one best seller in several categories with over 14,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads. From the number-one New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Colleen Hoover comes "A stand-alone romantic thriller that is tragic, creepy, and brilliant!" (Mel Reader Reviews) Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night their family was forever altered. Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her. Sexy. Twisted. Consuming. Due to graphic scenes and mature content, this book is recommended for listeners 18+. Read more

  • wow. surprising twists. what’s real?!
Format: Kindle
A very quick read. Captivating and well written. Some parts are so suspenseful and almost scary. I enjoyed the fact I couldn’t put it down.

  • Wow
Format: Kindle
I have never read A book that so completely pulled me in. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Read in record time. I would recommend to anyone who likes romance, suspense, twist and turns with unexpected endings. Great job!

  • Vacation Book Easy to Read Thriller
Format: Paperback
Well written, but I find the writer uses E.L. James' book of Fifty Shades of Gray to insert what I find as inappropriate material and not warranted. The book keeps you interested and has many twists and turns; however, the ending is bit cheesy and the writer should have spent more time on the ending. The book is okay. A little disturbing and not what I was expecting. ... show more

  • Disturbing and Unforgettable
I totally didn’t see the twist coming at the end. It’s disturbing in a way that really lingers. The writing style is easy to read and moves at a pretty fast pace, which kept me hooked. That said, I personally didn’t like the amount of explicit sexual content. The detailed descriptions felt excessive and didn’t really add much value to the story for me. ... show more

  • A Twisted, Unsettling Thriller That Will Leave You Questioning Reality
Format: Paperback
Verity lures you in with a thrilling premise: Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, is hired to complete a bestselling series for the incapacitated author Verity Crawford. But when she discovers an unpublished manuscript filled with disturbing, deeply unsettling confessions, the story darkens—and it doesn’t lighten from there. The novel grips you with its eerie atmosphere and psychological tension. You’ll feel the cold dread of the Crawford estate, the weight of secrets, and the uncomfortable pull of morally gray characters. Lowen's growing relationship with Verity's husband Jeremy is as tense as it is seductive, pushing boundaries and stirring guilt. Hoover’s narrative delivers shocking twists—none more impactful than the final pages, which twist the entire story on its head and leave you questioning what was real: the manuscript, the letter, even the characters themselves. That said, the book is polarizing. Some readers find the characters flat or the sensual scenes excessive. Others are frustrated by the open-ended ambiguity and questioned motivations. Ultimately, Verity is a dark**,***nearly Gothic psychological thriller that dares to disturb—and some will love it; others won’t. ... show more

  • A new plot that was interesting but not for a permanent book collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was an easy-to-read book. It did have you wondering what was going on. You feel for two of the three main characters, but towards the end, I started to suspect maybe the husband wasn't all he was supposed to be. I am not sure I really believe in the premise of the wife's reason for writing her journal, but I must say that it was a plot that was totally new to me. When trying to decide between a 4 and 5 star rating, I picked a 4 because I did not feel it was worthy of keeping in my book collection. Also, I felt I couldn't give it to my mother or conservative friends because of all the talk of F---ing and sucking. ... show more
