Description

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett and his wife, Marybeth, make separate discoveries that put the Pickett family in a pair of killers’ crosshairs in this thrilling new novel in the bestselling series. A day before the three Pickett girls come home for Thanksgiving, Joe is called out for a moose- poaching incident that turns out to be something much more sinister: a local fishing guide has been brutally tortured and murdered. At the same time, Marybeth opens an unmarked package at the library where she works and finds a photo album that belonged to an infamous Nazi official. Who left it there? And why? She learns that during World War II, several Wyoming soldiers were part of the first American company to reach Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest retreat in the Alps—and one of them took the Führer’s personal photo album. Did another take this one and keep it all these years? When a close neighbor is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face new questions: Who is after the book? And how will they solve its mystery before someone hurts them … or their girls? Meanwhile, Nate Romanowski is on the hunt for the man who stole his falcons and attacked his wife. Using a network of fellow falconers, Nate tracks the man from one city to another. Even as he grasps the true threat his quarry presents, Nate swoops in for the kill—and a stunning final showdown. • TWO STORIES FOR THE PRICE OF ONE
Format: Kindle
Joe gets the Nazi and Nate gets the bird. Two highly suspenseful stories neither of which has anything to do with game hunting but are nevertheless great reads.

  • Good Action, Storyline and Characters
Format: Kindle
Story includes interesting detail about falconry as well as current Antifa subplot. Well written and fast paced. Recommend for lovers of justice and quality characters.

  • exciting!!
Format: Kindle
Very hard, but this book down. Thick excitement, the adrenaline rushes, everything made this an excellent book to read. A must Joe Pickens read.

  • Another well spun yarn.
Format: Kindle
Actually two yarns at once, one back home and the other in the northwest. Nazis back home and Falcons and Antifa in Portland. Joe's busy as usual.

  • SHADOWS REEL
Format: Kindle
Another gripping tale from C.J. With a little WW II Nazi factual story intertwined with the always fascinating Falconeering touch to add more intrigue to a well crafted book. So enjoyed the possible riot fueled events in cities mentioned fueled by BLM and ANTIFA.

  • OK, but not his best work
Format: Kindle
I always look forward to a new Joe Pickett book and I have always enjoyed CJ Box's writing. This book, however, just didn't hit the mark for me. The story lines were somewhat muddled and Joe seemed to take a secondary role in the book overall. I also found the constant usaged of BLM and "ANTIFA" to be unnecessary. While I have no issue with any author including aspects of current events in their writing, I tend to expect it to be a bit more balanced and actually adding to the storyline...and in this case, neither occurred. The storyline could just as easily been told without any of that and including those aspects added absolutely nothing to the already muddled and rather weak storyline. Every author has at least one book that doesn't quite hit the mark. I will continue to look forward to his future books in hopes that they return to the quality of both writing and storyline that we have become accustomed to. ... show more

  • Pne of His Better Efforts
Format: Kindle
Joe Pickett seems to have finally taken off his Superman cape, at least for this book. In the early books, he was a regular guy caught in irregular circumstances. It was part of charm and one of the reasons I enjoyed the books. In later books, he took on a persona of invincibility that was much less attractive. In this book, he seems to be on his way back to being a regular guy. We have two completely separate stories here. Both are well plotted and nicely paced and Box manages to give each story its due with no confusion or short changing. I had stopped reading the Pickett series, but I may pick it up again. I really enjoyed this book . ... show more

  • Worth Reading Despite some of the Negative Reviews
Format: Kindle
I'm sure that if you are looking at reviews of the 22nd book in the series, you are already familiar with Joe Pickett and the cast of characters that CJ Box brings to the series. So I won't rehash all that you already know. I will say that this is another fun and exciting addition to the series. In people's negative reviews you will see that many are upset that CJ Box spoke negatively about some of the protests that were taking place over the past few years. I too was worried that this book was trying to make a political statement. However, if you read carefully, you will notice that while he does poke at antifa, he shows respect to the BLM movement and makes it clear that they have a point and deserve a different kind of consideration than antifa. I am a democrat and support the BLM movement and will clearly say, I'm not offended by anything that is said in this book. Anyone who is offended by anything in this book should not be 22 books into this series. Having said all of that... I love the Pickett family. I love the way that CJ Box writes. I could read a million of these books. Also, he's been foreshadowing that eventually, Sheridan will get in on the action in a bigger way. I think that will be a welcome next step for the series. The only thing that I didn't like about this book is that I finished it too quick and am now forced to wait another year for the next one. ... show more
