This is a great little set-up for my cabin. I use it mostly for heating up water for doing dishes and some cooking. The bigger burner is a work horse - boils a gallon of water pretty fast for a little unit. I don't use the smaller burner much. I bought a couple large silicone heat absorber pads to put under the unit, but they've never really gotten hot. Still not a bad idea to do this just as a precaution. I do want to comment on the continuing heat after turning the unit off. Per the product description: "It takes about 20 minutes for the burner to cool completely, which helps keep the food warm for a long time." My experience: once water got to near boiling state, I would turn off the burner, but the water continued to boil - there's no immediate slowdown like a regular stove burner. I've now made it a habit to unplug the unit to get the heat source to stop sooner than later. Other than the continuing heat after shut-off, (which some people might be okay with...) it does a good job. ... show more

    • Nice, But No Power Switch Or Changing Color Light To Warn You Its Still Turned On

I had a smooth top stove where the top cracked and since I'm moving soon and replacing all the appliances when I put the home for sale, opted for this as a temporary solution. I like the metal burners versus glass since I just had a smooth top crack. The unit heats up and boils water pretty fast, maybe faster then my stove used to! I also like the handles which is why I bought this instead of a cheaper unit. My only negative is there is not power switch so I caught myself leaving it on because when it reaches temperature the light goes off, but its actually still on. This could potentially be a safety issue if left on all night, I would think. You have to unplug it from the wall to be sure to turn it off or remember to turn it all the way down. I have a griddle that has a red led/green led light and no light when it is off, with this unit the light doesn't change color it just turns off when its at temperature meaning it could still be on. 4 stars. I didn't see anyone else comment on that but I think either a changing color light when its on or a power switch is a feature worth having. ... show more

The similar Duxtop 1200W infrared model lasted for years before the thermostat went crazy. Can't complain as I assume made in China. This is an excellent hot plate able to handle glass coffee pots. It is easy to clean with a wet sponge. The new more common induction hot plate models require metal pots for the unsafe EMFs to vibrate the iron molecules like a microwave vibrates water molecules. EMFs interfere with your body's subtle cell communication. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I cannot speak about other people's units they may have received, but my unit did not boil the water even after 25 minutes. And I tried it with 2 different types of pots. Wasting an hour of my time. Yes, I did as the manual says from the very moment i received it. Turning the unit on initially to max level for 5 minutes. And when it was time the next day to boil water, I let the unit heat up completely before placing each of the 3QT pots of water on the unit. The video is showing max level after 25 minutes of being on the burner, and the pasta being in the pot after 8 minutes. So over 33 minutes total. I cannot say if I got a defective unit or not, but that proclamation techwood makes about boiling a 4QT pot of water in around 15 minutes, IMO is not true. At least for my unit. If you only need to heat things up, the unit is perfect. If you need to boil water...for get about it. I would not buy this again. ... show more
