  • The DC backlight control is the best feature of TCL NXTPaper 4.
So, I've used tablets with LCD,OLED,eink and that means color eink and non backlight eink. I don't exactly believe OLED is "better" than LCD, just different. I appreciate each screens strengths. Like, OLED does have great blacks, but LCD has better pixel patterns. This tablet has a DC powered backlight. I don't know if OLED or anything else could use DC dimming, but this tech kinda breaks the rules on eye comfort. I don't even use the epaper mode - this screen isn't silently blaring my eyes with PWM control. It is very comfortable. I did initially think the matte look was horrible at first, and was like, this is going back, but I gave it a week, and it won me over. This vs glossy is just again, a matter of preference. It does make for controlling glare way better. Glossy is "clearer", but I don't miss seeing myself in the screen reflection lol. They gave it 4 speakers, a 1440p screen, and an ok stylus. The screen is smooth, thus writing on this tablet vs a Boox is just terrible feeling. The SoC lacks a decent CPU, only A76. A78s would have been much better. No wifi 6 either. But the biggest most annoying feature is whatever tcl uses to kill programs like accubattery or chargie. You can set them to run unrestricted, and in a day, it will reverse your choice to optimized. I would have thought android 15 had built in charge level limiting - nope. No modes or routines either, even though I thought that was an android 13 feature. The screen though is worth all the negatives. Too bad 3rd party accessories are basically non existent. ... show more

  • Excellent Value, Excellent Product
I love this tablet! I have exclusively owned and used Apple products for over two decades and have never had or used an Android product. But I find this android tablet to be just awesome. I bought it mainly because I suffer from dry eye and digital devices are very hard on my eyes. This device is much easier on my eyes. It functions nicely as an E Reader, for surfing the web, social media apps, simple games, etc. I like it so much I am thinking about buying the TCL NXTpaper cell phone to replace my iPhone 13 Pro Max. ... show more

  • Great device, weird OS, no covers.
TCLs OS is a little wonky and takes some gettkng used to but the device itself is 6*s. Best screen on a tablet ever. It is so much nicer to read on. A few things to consider: The OS is not great. It's not very intuitive. I'm an android guy and have used sony, LG and samsung and this TCL version is by far the worst. They should just stick with stock. TCL JUST came out with their own cover for it, and I recommend getting that. You won't find many options for this for some reason. There are not that many manufacturers making any sort of custom cover for this device. If you dont go with TCLs, your stuck getting generic covers that kind of work well or not so well. Same with screen protectors. Major bummer. TCL should make a keyboard cover. ... show more

  • Amazing/Great/Cool Features
It's an excellent tablet. I love the fact I can switch it easily between the 3 modes on the side. It's very simple. Love the non-glare screen. After I got it the first thing I did id install a desktop theme. I read on it. I've had a Samsung, Kindle Fire Chromebook and HP laptops. The screen being non-glare is amazing for every thing. The speed is great for what I do. Now if you don't have a very high speed Internet it will be slow. It can keep up. The sound could be a tad higher. Wish it would have come with a plug in charger but I ordered one. You can call the and they will help you. You can contact them through Amazon and they will get back with you. I say get one. I'm wanting to get another one TCL Tab 8 to take on the run. Found one sad to say not here on Amazon. ... show more

  • Don’t believe the marketing
[tablet has “device is corrupted and cannot be trusted Android error, now refuses to boot, after two weeks of ownership. Returning for refund.] Decent deal but don't believe the silly marketing. TCL decided to make a tablet that competes with color e-ink displays. The nano-texture screen was apparently made to mimic paper. On that front it works well, and the three paper modes are fun to use and have some utility. But the screen is harder to look at over long sessions because the nano-texture acts as a polarization filter that distorts brightness and color unless viewed straight on, and the effect is so strong you’ll see distortion at the edge of the viewing area even then. All the “eye-strain” stuff built into tye device feels therefore like gaslighting. The Mediatek processor is also 5-10x slower than current iPads. There are also virtually no official accessories. Also it’s worse than useless outside - it’s utterly illegible. Your phone will be 10x easier to see outdoors because that nano-texture glass distributes all the glare on the screen. Its also not bright enough to handle direct sunlight. Get this heavily on sale and it’s not a bad deal. The build quality is top notch and is equal with Apple (whether durability or QAQC are equally as good, who knows.) It’s good for like comics, indoors, under bright overhead lighting, and if that’s your use case you will probably be vey pleased. The further you get from that use case the less this tablet will work for you. Think of more like an ereader with tablet functionality. ... show more

  • Impressed
This is a inexpensive table by TCL. It is very thin and premium looking. I use it as a replacement for e-reader. Not sure about eye strain, but my eyes feel fine after reading. I do research for my Sunday School class. I can also watch movies. The screen quality is great. The screen size is perfect for me. I love the circle to search. It works even if you take a picture of anything, but not people. You circle items in the photo. It will show where to purchase the item and similar items. I use this feature mostly on YouTube videos If I have to say anything bad. It would have to be the available tablet cases. Not a lot to choose from, which could be a plus. It depends on how you look at it. I did consider upgrading to the Samsung tablet, but for the cost and features on this tablet, it is not worth it. It's a keeper for me ... show more
