I have no complaints about this air conditioning unit. We installed it in our bedroom, which gets much warmer than the rest of the house! Just received our 8000 BTUTCL air conditioner today a bit of an issue installing because of the side panel thingies trying to fit into a window opening that has had a new window replacement. But we managed with some trouble though it is not installed quite the way they want us to. it cools beautifully. Our problem was with the remote. It was impossible to get the screw out without stripping it. We ended up calling the 800 number and they are sending us a new one without a screw. We don’t intend to hook up the smart feature. I don’t need it. I’m happy with a remote. So far so good I will update with any changes. ... show more

On lower speeds, the compressor rattles like a two-stroke engine. Some research suggests this is not a defect and all units sound like this, but it's quite irritating. Only the fan speed can be controlled, but the compressor and condenser fan can run at different speeds from the blower fan, depending on device settings. I was unable to connect it to wifi with the Android app, but it worked with an iPhone. After connecting it on an iPhone, I could change settings from the Android app. Of note, the manual suggests pressing buttons on the unit to enter wifi pairing mode; this didn't work, and I had to use the remote control to enable the wifi. The Matter integration is useless, though that's not surprising, as I haven't found any window or portable AC that is actually usable through Matter. Connecting to Google Home with Matter gave me a warning about the device not being certified and, once acknowledged, set up the device as read-only (not able to adjust settings). Also, the remote control has a tiny screw holding the battery door closed, so you have to find a screwdriver to open it. Within the app, 4 fan speeds are shown, plus an auto mode. 1 and 2 provide the same airflow, but 1 allows the device to slow down the compressor further. 4 and 5 seem to be identical. So there are really only 3 speeds available, plus a quiet mode. Eco mode allows the unit to turn off the blower fan once temperature is maintained; I suggest avoiding this and leaving the fan running to prevent mold growth. The new model (H8W4KW) is a poorly designed face-lift of the old one (H8W4MW); it houses largely the same internals under a different cover. The new model opens the louver to the full width of the machine, but the left 1/3 of the space is blocked off due to the placement of the prior model's control panel, so air only blows out of the right side. (There is still an internal left-right/lateral flow adjuster.) With all that being said... this TCL unit does cool very well, better than the Hisense inverter units, and it doesn't have nearly as much of a PWM whine (high-pitched screeching sound) and makes fewer water splashing sounds. ... show more

This works great. Did not need it often but on the super hot days we had it was nice to have. Does not cool the whole house but we closed the doors on the bedrooms and it did a great job of keeping the living area cool. It has bult in expandable extensions that swing out on each side to fill the gaps. Did not work for us as they were to short to fill the whole opening. Easy fix to cut some foam insulation to fill it. Packed the pieces away with the unit so we reuse them next year. Pleased with how quiet the unit is. Did notice a slight rattle from the outside of the unit after about the third use but it is not noticeable inside and the unit works fine. ... show more

Yes, it is quiet and easy to install as advertised. Unfortunately, the cool setting produces 20% humidity and the room in which this is installed is 255 sq feet (8,000 BTU). Room is closed off from rest of home. I had to install a dehumidifier to undo the humidity production this unit puts off. Very disappointed with this a/c. ... show more
