Description

If you don't use the battery for a long time, we suggest you charged it periodically. It should be noted that the cell would be possible to be at a over-discharged state by its self-discharge characteristics in case the cell is not used for long time. In order to prevent over-discharging, the cell shall be charged periodically to maintain between 12V and 13.8V. Over-discharging may causes loss of cell performance, characteristics, or battery functions. Please note: this battery can't be used as a Jump Starter Battery!!! First and foremost... This is not a high amp cranking battery, it is a genuine deep cycle use limited current LiFePO4 battery. It's rated for about 20amps continuous, and on the first cycle charged back up at 24.7AH which falls right in with it's claim. Much lighter and a bit smaller than a gel/sla, and cycles much deeper. The little meter on top is handy, not sure just how accurate it is just yet. Came with a small wall charger, though I took it right to the bench supply for charging. Out of the box it shipped at about 50%soc and will need charged up. Zero literature packed with the battery, but the front sticker has most of the important stuff. Using this one to keep a 12v refrigerated cooler running in my work van, and it successfully ran it for nearly 20 hours all on its own. Do that with a gel and it would be dead in a month! It's priced exceptionally competitive, and so far works as intended. ... show more

    • 24 AH battery-Use it to power a Icom IC-7000 mobile amateur radio without issue
This is probably the smallest lithium iron phosphate battery that can power an Icom IC-7000 radio without issue. The radio requires at least 20 amps continuous power and smaller lithium power sources fold at much less current requirements making this battery well suited for a small form factor no compromise full power out from a mobile radio in a portable environment. I haven't checked the capacity against manufacturer specifications yet, but appears to be close due to the charging profile. The battery gauge is based on voltage, and not a actual coulomb counter. For a more accurate battery gauge, I would suggest one of the coulomb counters with the green backlit LCD displays with the brass shunt. They can be found here on Amazon and ebay. We'll see how well it ages and I'll report back sooner than later if I encounter any shortcomings but so far it's good! Update: Verified battery capacity. It is witihin .5AH of rated specifications. I was able to sustain full power out of my Icom HF radio up to about 1.5AH left in battery, then I saw the voltage drop off considerably. I'll dial into my coulomb counter a 20AH capacity limit so the depth of discharge is around 83% which gives me that "emergency reserve". ... show more

    • Works a couple times, then it doesn't - hopefully you're upstream when it gives out!
Worked great for two seasons, charged up fully after each trip, and then I fully charged it before winterizing my boat. This year it took a little longer to charge than usual, and then it died within 15 minutes this year. The screen quit working after the first session out, but since the battery kept working I didn't think anything else about it. It won't even take a charge now, and reads 0.00V on my multimeter. ... show more

    • A/C charger wires to clips are thin, guarante to fail
The wires soldered to the a/c charging clips are thin, I have little faith that they will last and give good service. This is a live wire component that by all my experience is guaranteed to fail.

This is the cheapest Lithium battery in the market. I was hesitant to buy but due to its price I wanted to give it a try. I did some comparison tests between this (24AH TalentCell) battery and expert power's 20 AH lithium and Mighty Max 35 AH AGM battery. I should point out that with Lead Acid and AGM batteries, you are not supposed to go below 50% capacity because it cause harm and may reduce the battery's life. The first test was with a hair drier at a low setting with an inverter. It got warm as expected but lasted 40 minutes whereas, 20AH expert power's Lithium lasted 30 minutes and 35AH AGM lasted 22.5 minutes. So if you do the simple calculation by normalizing the rated capacities, expert powers Lithium performed about 2.3 times better than AGM and TalentCell performed at 2.57 times better than AGM. The second test I did was with a projector that draws about 130W and AGM lasted 1.88 hours whereas TalenCell lasted 2.16 hours. Again comparing to their rated capacities, TalentCell performed at 1.7 times better than the AGM battery. I returned expert power and did not do this test with it because it drained completely and the charger did not recognize it anymore, so I returned it. So far I am happy with this purchase although I did not use it for a long time. I hope it lasts as long as they promise. Form my experience Lithium performs much better than Lead-acid and AGM's when the current draw is high. If it is small it is more comparable to AGM but still at least 1.5 times better. Normally I was not supposed to go below 50% with AGM but when the load is connected the capacity shows very low however as soon as you remove the load it shows higher. So in all experiments without load AGM ended up draining at 50%. I hope this helps you understand the performance comparison between AGM and lithium batteries and this battery. ... show more

Although this battery does not have low temp cutoff, or so I read somewhere, I am not going to try to charge it at low temperatures. It is working very well for my purposes of running ham radio equipment from DC. I still need to charge it from solar panels, charging it from an AC outlet with the proper charger works great. I like how light it is compared to the AGM batteries I used, and still have. I will take this one with me for portable operations. The AGM batteries will be used at home, until they die. For QRP operations other hams have also recommended TalentCell batteries of lower amperage. Only long-term use will determine if it lasts 2000 cycles, of course, with proper care. ... show more
