In the spirit of transparency, I'll confess my hatred for modern technology, which always reminds me of the computer Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey. This is what brought me to the need to replace my Ecobee thermostat, which had become a major pain in my Ecobee-hind and left me yearning for the days when you controlled the thermostat and it didn't control you. I figured it was worth the investment (experiment) and purchased this thermostat. It sat on the counter for several days before I worked up the courage to open it and read the installation instructions. I'm 75 and all thumbs that are constantly shaking. My back-up plan has always been the same: pay a professional to do the job. Installation took 30 minutes and things were good to go from the moment I restored power. Updated review....originally I gave this 2 stars and a 'not-so-good' write up. My picture doesn't do it justice - the backlighting is so good that it appears "fuzzy" in the picture - it's not, it's crystal clear and very well-lit and very nice-looking. If you don't need a "smart" thermostat, then this is the one to get. Smart thermostat are good if no one is in the house during the day, but my wife is home. So we needed a simple, good-looking, back-lit thermostat and this is it! The mounting plate wire screws are ridiculously tiny, but so are many thermostats these days. It took a few days before the thermostat became more consistent. The 1st day or so it seemed like it did not want to hold temperature well and would not consistently run with a 3-degree split. However it's been working fine now for a solid week and it seems pretty accurate. The seller had offered to give me a full refund, not in exchange for a better review, just because they thought it was the right thing to do. That says a lot about the seller! For me, the right thing to do was to update the review with the additional findings after using these a little longer...it's actually a pretty good thermostat, and I would recommend and (yes) I am keeping these (I installed 2). ... show more

It works but seems to get stuck on temp sometimes. Seems to be off by at least a degree. I still have it installed but just wonder about it. Maybe another unit?

I replaced the old thermostat with the new in about 10 minutes flat. You do need a super small screwdriver like the ones you can buy for eye glass repair. I own a complete set of drivers, so it was no problem.

Good product, easy to install, works fine, display is large enough for senior eyes, but control buttons are not well designed, slider switch positions for heat/off/cool are too close to each other, its easy to set it by mistake to heat instead of off or to cool instead of off. Hope next iteration of product will space switch positions a little further apart. ... show more
