  • Simple, but very effective
Format: Kindle
The Dark Side of Discipline: Stop Chasing. Suffer Less. Achieve More. by Craig Ballantyne and Daniel Woodrum is an excellent resource for anyone who is looking to become a better problem solver and discover how to prioritize and use their time to the best of their ability. There is a misconception that discipline means that you are always laser focused on what you need to do and take on all of your problems head on at the same time. The truth is, people who do that often accomplish very little. Rather, true discipline is understanding what needs to happen and when and then having the drive and focus to do it and see the job done. When you prioritize and take things on one at a time, you actually save time and become far more disciplined. That is the focus of this book, and it does a great job of showing us how to do this without turning our lives upside down. If you want to become the envy of those around you then this is a book you will want to check out. ... show more

  • A Brutally Honest Wake-Up Call
Format: Kindle
The Dark Side of Discipline is the wake-up call you didn’t know you needed. Craig Ballantyne and Daniel Woodrum don’t just give you another set of tactics to “grind harder.” Instead, they force you to confront the hidden cost of undisciplined discipline - the version of discipline that keeps you stuck chasing arbitrary online challenges, overwork, bad behaviors and self-sabotage. This book will challenge you to reframe your approach to discipline as the ultimate key to true freedom. This book delivers a life-changing perspective shift. It shows you that true discipline isn’t about punishing yourself with more work; it’s about elevating your standards, setting up the right systems, and becoming the person you were created to be. What I love most is that this book doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It’s direct, practical, and brutally honest - exactly what people need in today’s world. Buy this book, apply what’s inside, and start living at the level you were meant for. ... show more

  • Thought provoking
Format: Kindle
Reading The Dark Side of Discipline felt like a relief. I’ve always struggled with discipline because it seemed harsh and joyless. But this book reframed everything. It made me realize that discipline isn’t about doing more, but in fact, it’s about doing less of the wrong things. I appreciated how real it felt. The advice wasn’t dramatic or overwhelming. It actually made me pause and think about how I’ve been approaching my goals. I liked the tone, firm, but not pushy. The authors write like they care, and that made a difference. It’s helped me let go of guilt and focus on the few things that really count. I didn’t expect a mindset shift, but that’s exactly what I got. I feel calmer now, and oddly more motivated too. It’s a book I’ll revisit often. ... show more

  • An interesting read!
Format: Kindle
The Dark Side of Discipline is a refreshing take on productivity and goal-setting that challenges the overhyped hustle culture. I found this book incredibly practical and honest. Craig Ballantyne and Daniel Woodrum strip discipline down to its core: focusing deeply on what truly matters and saying no to everything else. The advice isn’t about trendy routines—it’s about clarity, priorities, and building systems that actually work for real life. I appreciated the blend of motivational tone with concrete strategies, especially the emphasis on identity shifts and creating personal standards. It feels like a mindset reset more than just another productivity manual. I always felt overwhelmed by endless to-do lists and chasing unrealistic habits but this book provided me a simpler, smarter path to success. Clear, grounded, and highly useful—it really delivers. ... show more

  • Focusing effort on the right things
Format: Kindle
If you are looking for something earth-shatteringly new for self-discipline, a horror story about child rearing, or even some sort of deep-seated problem with developing a proactive approach to getting your life in order, this is not it. Nor does it present anything especially new in the way of generally "getting your act together." Its main and most important point is that being organized, having self-discipline, is not necessarily the complete answer to improving your life. The author makes the point that it is important to be disciplined about the right things. You can be absolutely spot-on with exercise or running, yet not be reaching your health goals because of an unhealthy diet. You can be winning marathon footraces, but failing at your job. Applying planning and self discipline are important to many things, such as eliminating addictions or separating yourself from digital devices, but it needs to also insert healthy things. The big takeaway from this book is applying your biggest efforts to your biggest needs, and doing it the right way -- namely, replacing bad habits that leave your life in a mess with good habits that improve your life, develop better relationships with those around you, and leave you feeling good about yourself. ... show more

  • ‘How to deliver you dream life without extreme sacrifices or suffering’ – A must read!
Format: Kindle
Authors Craig Ballantyne and Daniel Woodrum are business coaches and in this valuable boo0k they present how to re-think discipline from a negative to a positive - ‘doing what you should do, when you should do it, no matter how you feel about doing it.’ As stated in the early pages, after a fine description of the negative aspects of rigid discipline, ‘Discipline can set you free in the short term, but only through the setting of high personal standards can you remain free for life.’ The authors’ three phases for evolvement – build effortless discipline systems to deliver sustainable results, create a strong identity (personal traits that characterize us), and establish personal standards that make success automatic. How to achieve this – ‘prioritize what truly matters and understand how to achieve goals.’ One of the many reasons this book is so valuable as a guide is the manner in which the authors communicate: ‘With your new systems, identity, and a higher set of standards, you become unstoppable in every area of life – from the boardroom to the living room.’ ‘To find true discipline, you have to back up. First, you must figure out what matters in your life. We call this identifying your values and vision…’ Reading and absorbing this excellent guide provides meaningful concepts for a healthy and successful life. Very informative and valuable!!! ... show more

  • Focus, focus, focus
Format: Kindle
When we're in the entrepreneurial world, it's very common to feel guilty about the habits we think we should have. For trying to make the most of every minute of the day. For trying to force our bodies and not allow ourselves the smallest things that might even help us achieve our ultimate goal. In "The Dark Side of Discipline: Stop Chasing. Suffer Less. Achieve More," Craig Ballantyne and Daniel Woodrum discuss simple and effective strategies. The key is knowing how to focus and dedicate the appropriate effort to the level of the problem at hand. As they say, a level 10 effort for a level 10 problem. Sounds simple, right? However, success goes hand in hand with doing this automatically.
