I read over the various reviews of this unit and comparable units before making a purchase. The reviews pretty much fit into two categories that are polar opposites: those who appreciated the heat it provided vs those who said it puts out no heat whatsoever. We installed it on our patio just above the door to our storage unit. It is angled downward and points diagonally across the opening of the sliding glass door from our living room. As is expected of this type of heating unit the heat applies to the area the light hits -- directly in its path. It is not a radiant heater that will crank out heat to the nearby area, nor did we expect it to be. As a result I had no disillusions about what it would or wouldn't do. It works great! The heat, especially power levels two (1000W) and three (1500W), is good for the type of weather we're having in the Pacific Northwest right now. We can stand or sit out on the patio in the area the light hits and feel warmth comparable to being indoors. Obviously if we step slightly outside the line of sight then there's no heat, but that's to be expected. We made sure to plug it into an outlet that doesn't have a lot of other stuff going on -- ie. not the circuit with our TV and game systems, not the circuit with our PCs, etc. So far we've yet to trip the 15A breaker when turning the unit on at any of the power levels. I knocked the review down a star though because the pre-included screws were cheap and flimsy. Two of the screws intended for attaching it to the wall or ceiling had their heads stripped while trying to screw them in, and when pulling them out with pliers they bent with relative ease. Also one screw was missing from one of the back brackets. Always sucks when you have to make a trip to the hardware store for only a couple of screws. ... show more

We ordered the PatioBoss for our back porch for a number of reasons. The main two are here: 1. Warmth on a cool day/ night 2. To create a comfortable space for my kids to hang with their friends during Covid (safer outside). To begin with, its great looking and inconspicuous Nobody should notice the heater on the wall, just feel its warmth and comfort. The PatioBoss can also alter the intensity depending on the temps outside. The cooler it is, the higher the setting. The kids were also taught to put it on a timer so as not to forget to shut it off. It's a great safety feature. And it only requires some simple mounting and an outlet to plug (120v) Finally, at one point I called on their Service Department to ask for some guidance and they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I used these for my home gym in garage. Works awesome for the direct heat so you don't have to heat the entire space before you go work out. The Filament or bulb did burn out after a couple months in one of them not sure why. Surjuny did not respond however, I emailed the company and they send a whole new unit! Their customer service was fantastic. If you encounter issues contact the company and they will help you. I would absolutely but again. The heat from the infrared will travel about 6 or 8 feet. It will warm your space, but is the best direct heat source. There is no Wind from a blower getting cold as it passes through the air. Its just infrared heat. ... show more

    • Not Happy
This was great last winter. It kept me and my fiance warm when we wanted to sit outside on cold nights. The remote control was a bit glitchy and I didn't like how there was no way to power the heater on manually without the remote. But, it worked for us. Until last night. I plugged it in for the first time since last winter. It powered on but the remote would not turn on the heat. Overall, decent heat output. If you're standing 2 feet from it. Does better around 40 degrees, anything lower and you're just gonna have to lay on top of it. The screws provided had the heads snap off while installing. The wingnuts don't really hold tight enough. However if you had multiple of these, properly insulated garage, enclosed patio, you'd be doing well for the price. ... show more

    • Great for my dog kennels
I board dogs in a large metal building without insulation right now. So I needed something that could sit on the floor in front of the kennels. I place one heater in front of a 4'x6'x6' wire kennel and it keeps it about 68-70 degrees in the back of the kennel at the furthest point away from the heater. This is on nights when it is approximately 35 degrees outside. It heats up in about 5 seconds. The timer feature is awesome, you can set it up to 24 hours so no risk of forgetting to turn it off. And there is no set up. Just a few screws to add the legs on the back. Unless you want to hang it on a wall. I have two of them and have used them almost every night for 3 weeks and zero issues.     • UPDATED - Poor quality, missing screws but seems to work
UPDATED: SURJUNY customer support was very responsive and sent out a new heater. The new heater had all of it's parts and the heat deflector was mounted properly. It is possible that the issues with the first heater were mainly due to damage in shipping. I would still say that the heater feels a little "cheap" but it is working great and their support was very good. I updated my overall rating to reflect the new unit and great customer service. The mounting screws were loose in the box and I could never find one of them. I could tell that at least one screw was missing on the heater itself. The heat deflector behind the element just rattles around and it isn't long enough to try and secure it. I am assuming that it isn't supposed to just lay loosely against the heating element but it also doesn't look like it "broke free" from a mounting location. The heater itself works great and puts out a lot of heat although it is kind of bright when you have it turned on high. I am considering returning it but it's gotten pretty cold and it is working. ... show more
