Bought for a birthday gift. She was so excited to get. She wanted another popular brand name she saw on TV during cartoon shows she watches. I bought this one because it works in water too. We go to the lake a lot in the warmer weather and we walk the river banks when fishing. She is very excited to learn she can use this one on trips close to the water, the other one she couldn't. The media could not be loaded. This has a really cute dog design, very kid friendly. We got this as a gift for my son who has just started showing interest in metal detecting. It does work, but it can be hard to keep a steady detection at times. When you find something it beeps and the handle also lights up, which is also fun for the kids. The screen has Santa and snowflakes and drops a present when something is detected, which is kinda random and has nothing to do with the dog design, but not a big deal. It would have been cute if maybe it showed a puppy and it starts digging and finds a bone when something is detected, at least to stick with a theme. Even though it does work and my son has been having fun with it, it's basically just a toy metal detector. For beginners and those just starting out this is a great introduction, but for older kids or those who have more experience I would go a different route.

I gave this toy as a New Year gift to my son who is 5 years old. He had been asking about it for a few months. The metal detector works well and he is happy playing with it. It is well made and the color is vibrant. I hope it lasts a long time. I intend to use it at the beach during summer.

I was expecting to play with this thing for a couple of minutes and decide this was junk and never use it again. My son just turned 9 years old and he's very interested in metal detecting. I saw this and ordered it. When it arrived I showed it to him and he wanted to go outside and try it immediately, even though it was dark outside. We went outside and he waves it back and forth for a few seconds and gets a beep. He's diggiwith the shovel and we're looking for what it is. We can't find anything metal. We wave it back over the area and it keeps beeping. We're still looking but find nothing. I'm getting anxious that this thing doesn't work correctly. I get an idea and go to grab our magnet fishing magnet and I stick it over that spot and sure enough, a fairly large nail sticks to the magnet. I have no idea how we missed it. I'm sure it being dark had nothing to do with it. We went in to find more stuff. This thing is way. More accurate than I thought it would be. It only beeps and doesn't distinguish between types of metal, unless it beeps differently or something but I haven't read the directions. It comes with a plastic shovel and a plastic rake. It also comes with a backpack to store it in. The metal detector does have to be broken down to fit in the backpack but that entails only unscrewing a nut and flipping a lever. I might have said it was over priced being a kids "toy" but after seeing the accuracy, I have no issue with the price. I'm 109% satisfied.

My kids are having so much fun with this thing. We have a bunch of stuff in the dirt around our property, and they have been finding lots of little things with this. So far, nothing of value but they don't care. The design of this is really cute. My kids love to dig, and this is a cute gift as a starter hobby of looking for things with a metal detector. It would be fun to take to the beach, but I would be careful of getting a lot of sand on/in it. It would be nice if the tools it came with were metal. Our dirt is too hard for the plastic ones. We can use them in the garden where the dirt is loose, but not around our property. This would make a fun gift for any kids, but especially ones that like to dig. My youngest son especially loves digging in the dirt! I look at reviews a lot when shopping. I hope this review helps!

What a fun family activity. We bought this for our 6 year old. He's had quite an adventure discovering "treasure" around our home. The best part, he truly found a treasure! Our daughter's friend lost a very special ring in our backyard last year. Our son found it on his 3rd day hunting. We can't guarantee that level of success for everyone but it sure is fun to try.
