The functionality works, it does fuse 1.75mm filament together. However, the process is a bit cumbersome and I found it easier to add filament holders on either side of the device to keep the filament from twisting. There really isn't anything else I've found better, so if my review as based on market-wide review, this would be a 5-star, but I'm giving it a 4-star because it's not super easy to work with. The system heats up quickly, the provided sleeves work to keep the two sides close, but the snap-fit for the filament and sleeve do not really "snap fit" into place (hince, the need to secure the two filaments at the sides). When pushing down the lid to "cut" the sleeve at the end of the process, the lid flexes quite a bit and I can't tell if the sleeve was cut or not. This plastic "cutting" part feels like it should be a metal part to better score or cut through the PTFE tube and remove the fused filament. All this being said, I have not found a better way to fuse filament reliably and I would recommend getting this device for that purpose. ... show more

Way cheaper than building one from scratch. The machine isn't going to do all the work for you, this is something that takes some practice to get a good result. I've found the secret to getting a strong connection is to leave an air gap when you first insert the filament into heat plate. Close the lid, and wait a few seconds for the ends to heat up before you push the filament together. If you don't do this, the connection is most certainly going to be just a surface weld and that snap immediately. I fused a section of CF-PA6 then did a bend test. I have tried this product several times and have only gotten it to work ok for the most part. It is a struggle to get the filament setup for the process. It might just be me but it feels like I need at least one more hand, or possible two to get this to work better. I have even printed a couple different filament holders to try and work with it and Its still a little bit of a struggle. If you can get this to work flawlessly then you are better than me..lol. If I can find something to print or design that holds it all together better then a figure it will make a huge difference. ... show more

Filament connection must have!

I purchased this Sunlu filament connector as a bundle with the filament dryer. Overall, it's work majority of the time. By concept it's a great idea but by design the issues that I've come across is being able to maintain consistent connection with the two filaments being joined as you have to hold both ends of the filaments during the process to ensure you have great connections; and when it's done somehow also push the button to open the casing. The cutting tool is also a great option on this to slice the connection piece off. The product did come with over 200 connectors so there are plenty of use if you have a lot of half empty spools that you want to join together. Silk filaments I found need a little bit higher heat to stay together but that could just be me and others may have different experiences. ... show more

Fundamentally Flawed Premise

It's not just that it's a pain to use, but the basic premise is flawed. This unit will join the ends of filament most of the time, provided you are willing to keep fiddling with it, and cut out bad joints and re-splice until you get one that looks decent. If that were the only issue, then I would likely not bother leaving a review. The real problem comes when you attempt to actually use the spliced filament... Sometimes the joint will feed through an extruder, other times it will cause a jam and a print failure. I have definitely wasted more filament trying to use this to join remnants to new spools, than I would have just throwing away the remnant. ... show more

Beware! Bad connections

It's kind of a piece of crap. Very hard to work, and the connections it makes are bad and either clog or don't adhere properly. And when you do get a good adhesion, it's because you put in so much work you could spend doing something with your time to make enough money to just buy more spools.
