  • Sunhome Smith Machine Home Gym – Great Value, but Some Design Quirks
Style: SH-925G
The Smith Machine Home Gym is a well-rounded piece of equipment for those looking to build a versatile home gym on a budget. At $880 shipped with a coupon at the time of purchase (price subject to change), it offers a solid mix of features, including a Smith bar, cable system, leg press, and pull-up station. However, there are a few design flaws that require creative solutions. Pros This machine provides a sturdy frame and a good variety of workout options for the price. It functions well for most exercises and, with the right modifications, can accommodate a full-body routine. When paired with an adjustable bench, such as the Fostoy Adjustable Weight Bench (approximately $120 at the time of purchase), it becomes even more versatile with the ability to perform leg extensions and leg curls, along with a preacher curl attachment. Cons & Workarounds 1. Cable Length Limitation on Adjustable Pulleys • The cables bottom out too soon when using both pulleys at the same time, limiting the full range of motion. The seller confirmed this is a design flaw. • One solution is to use chain extensions (included with the machine) for each pulley and adjust your standing position until you achieve full range of motion. Another alternative is to sit on a bench or kneel to engage your core while performing movements like cable flys. • At 6’0”, I was able to make these adjustments work. 2. Smith Machine Height Restriction for Calf Raises • The height of the machine prevents proper calf raises on the Smith bar. • There is no direct fix, but alternative options include using a hack squat machine like I bought on Amazon (MDeam is the brand, check out my review on that as well), or performing seated dumbbell calf raises on a small platform for better range of motion. 3. Slack in the Pulley System for Leg Press, Chest Press, and Flys • The pulley system has noticeable slack, which reduces resistance at the start and end of movements. • To fix this, I placed a 2” piece of 2x4 between the rubber bumper of the leg press, which removed the slack and maintained consistent resistance throughout the range of motion. • Important Note: The block must be removed before adjusting weights, or it will be difficult to insert the pin into the stack. 4. Pull-Up Bar Foam Grip Feels Cheap • The foam grip isn’t ideal for my preference. A bare metal bar with grip tape would have been a better design choice. 5. Seat Back and Height Are Not Adjustable • The backrest is fixed, which means certain exercises require adjusting your body position manually. • The seat height is also non-adjustable, which may be an issue for some users, though it wasn’t a concern for me. Final Thoughts This Smith Machine Home Gym is a solid purchase for the price, with a wide range of functionality. While some design flaws exist, most can be worked around with slight modifications. If you’re looking for an affordable all-in-one home gym and are willing to make a few adjustments, this is a good investment—but keep in mind the price may change over time. ... show more

  • SOLID
Style: SH-925G
This year, my wife and I decided to start a focused fitness journey. However, going to the gym is not particularly ideal given our work schedules. So, we decided to look around for our own home gym. We looked at a number of different options before settling on this particular brand of Smith machine: SunHome. The machine itself was delivered in six separate boxes that were (luckily) all delivered the same day. From the outset, construction of the machine felt daunting. It took me somewhere between 5-6 hours to fully assemble it. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, although I would recommend that the manufacturer label the parts in the future to make finding the correct part a little easier. Other than that, everything assembled with ease. We did not encounter any misaligned holes or any thread issues. And the machine is very sturdy. This isn't cheap material. My forehead is well-aware. We were missing a few parts upon reaching final assembly. Fortunately, there was an email address in the instruction manual to contact for issues such as this. Their response was prompt, and not only did they ship me the replacement parts but sent extra just in case. All at no charge. So it's a little difficult to be upset about it. More customer service needs to be at that level, which is why I'll give this machine 5-stars. ... show more

  • Great product; excellent customer service.
Style: SH-925G
After months of debating, I finally invested in the SunHome Multifunction Home Gym, and it’s been a game-changer for my fitness routine. The setup includes everything I need for a full-body workout, cable system, leg press, pull-up bar, all in one compact unit. Assembly took a few hours, but the instructions were clear. Once set up, it feels sturdy and professional. The weight stacks glide smoothly, and the build quality is solid — no wobbling or cheap parts. What I love most is the versatility. I can do strength training, bodyweight workouts, and even functional movements without switching equipment. My items arrived on time and was well package. I needed a replacement item after set up, and the seller promptly sent it to me via FedEx without any issue; excellent customer service. Overall, if you're serious about working out at home and want a reliable, all-in-one setup, I will HIGHLY recommend the SunHome Multifunction Home Gym ... show more

  • decent for home grade
Style: SH-925G
It's a good machine for 'home grade.' One of my biggest complaints is the foot pads on the leg press. The workout feels lackluster, like it’s not really providing any benefit to my legs, even when I increase the weights. When I use the term 'home grade,' I mean that the wire tension gives it a cheap, non-gym-quality feel. The Smith machine part is good, except the release hook for the bar can sometimes be difficult to place back properly, which could be an issue with heavy weights. Bottom line: it’s a good starter gym for home use, but I wouldn’t recommend paying more than $800 for it. I got it on sale with a coupon at that price. The setup took me 8 hours to complete. I used the video on YouTube as well as the instruction manual. I also used a ratchet setup. There will be one part where you’ll need at least two or three people. It’s when setting up the top part before the pull-up bar. Two people had to hold the bars in place while I screwed in the screws. ... show more
