  • Great little mower
Style: Kit (w/4.0-Ah Battery + Quick Charger) Pattern Name: Mower
I know your probably looking around for a new mower, and your thinking... Is this one really worth it? Does it cut well? Is it really easier? Yes, this mower is super light weight, I can push it around with one hand, you won't even miss the self propelled feature of the heavy gas mower. Its battery life is awesome, I had a really dense thick overgrown yard, and it did bog a little, but it cut it nicely in two passes, no sweat. My neighbors mower died, and she asked to borrow mine, so I put it to the test over there after I finished up, and it handled the seeding grass easily as well in the front yard. She said she didn't even hear me out front cutting it, and asked to borrow it for the back. She wanted the link after she was done, so I think its a winner for me and my neighbor as well. Can't beat the price. I figured I'd pick up a Snapper (one of my favorites) HicVac if I didn't like this one, but to be honest, this one really won me over these few times I've used it so far. I'd say that it does a really super job and its sooo easy. I mean you just pop the battery in and go. All I can say is that two people have asked me about it, and two people now have asked for the link to pick one up after giving it a go. If your considering a cheep gas powered mower, and your on the fence about this electric one, I'd recommend you give this a go, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to cut and maneuver. I found that even with the plastic deck, and wheels out front, its been much easier to fit into some of the tight spaces in my yard. The 16" cutting deck is a little smaller but I have not really had any complaints about it, it fits into the tight areas, and takes a couple of passes more to finish, but it has not hindered mowing time turning around this little lightweight machine. I don't miss the self propelled feature because you can push this along with one hand. The wheels on here are just as sturdy as any other mower and they held up well in my backyard which tends to eat wheels up pretty well. These have not bent or sheered off, although I did work to smooth it out back there this spring haha. I don't really have a huge issue with the gas powered mowers, and I can work on small engines pretty well, I'm no expert but I could keep them running well. This is nice, the benefits are there are no air filters to replace, no stuck oil plug on the bottom that's been crusted in, no tipping it over to empty out the oil every season, and no spilling gas everywhere when filling it up, and finally no crusty carbs to dismantle and clean when you forget to store it for the season. Just pop the battery in and go. The little safety start took some getting used to, but this one fires right up once you get used to pushing the button, and then pulling on the lever... It does not do anything if you have the lever pulled at all when you push the button. It took a little muscle memory. My neighbors electric was similar so she had no issue with it, my friend had the same muscle memory and had to adjust to that like I did. It adjusts cutting speed based on how much grass its chopping and what kind of load it has, but is cuts really evenly and does a good job. The grass catcher is smaller, but I found that its easier to empty. I used to wrangle with the big full grass catcher and get lazy and do one trash bag per full catcher. This one I can fill the bag up because I don't have to wrangle with it. I found that it don't need to be emptied too often, so its not annoying. You may like that, so if you like to use it, just consider its smaller size. I found that it handles a good amount of grass when I used it but it did need emptying a couple of extra times. I ordered a mulching adapter, but found that it didn't quite fit, so I just leave it off. it works fine, and you clan out the little grass flap when your done. With or without the catcher on it, it is easy to push, and doesn't get heavy. I thought that it was a little pricey when first shopping around, but after seeing the build quality of some of the gas powered ones, that are about this price range or lower, this seamed like a good deal. After using it though, no way would I go back to those. Its a good value, especially if you have a SnowJoe and have a couple of these batteries on had. After comparing the cost though, in terms of time and maintenance, the Lithium Ion batteries and chargers are pretty good in terms of value for the cost of gas, oil, air filters, and carb cleaning, adjustments, and storage those little things add up, so your not spending much more and your not taking it in or doing it in the garage yourself. Even if you replace them every once in a while its no to shabby. After using this little mower for a bit though, I am sold on the cordless mower, I though eh I buy a gas powered mower here if I need to, nope this has been great. I would not go back to the gas powered mowers, totally sold on it. I am surprised because I bought this to give it a shot, and see if these were any good, and I ended up really liking it. ... show more

  • I was skeptical that the low price meant poor quality, but the reviewers were right. 5 star

Amazon lumps together reviews and ratings for similar products into one umbrella review for many products, so just to be clear, I'm writing a review for the Sun Joe iON16LM 40 V 16-Inch Cordless Lawn Mower with Brushless Motor. This mower is small. But in a way that makes it even better. Not as a wide of a cut, sure, but the thing is so light and easy to use it's a tradeoff I'm happy to make. It's so light and easy to use that I was fairly sure it would have trouble with front yard. I've got weed grass up there. That is to say, I've never planted grass up there. But the clover and wild grass that grows up there, when kept up, looks just as good as grass. The problem with it is that if I don't mow it for a couple weeks it can grow in really thick and some areas get to be a foot high, especially when it rains. That was the current condition of my front yard when I got this thing. I started with my backyard, about 40'x40', and regular run of the mill grass. I was immediately impressed with how low I could set this thing to. My old mower, in spite of having 6 settings on it, didn't have any settings for lower than a couple inches. I don't know exactly how low it could go, all i know is that I wanted it to cut lower. I set this thing to lowest setting, and it got my grass and inch lower than I ever could get it before. So that was great. Rolled through the backyard without a problem at all. Now, knowing I had the front yard to still do, and knowing it was gonna tax this thing far more than the backyard did, I put the battery on the charger for 2 hours and did other work in the yard before taking it off the charger and hitting the front yard. I don't know how the low the battery was when I put it back on the charger, so I can't say how long it would've gone for. But I used it for about 20 minutes in the backyard without a problem. Now, the front yard. Now I do use a special technique when my front yard get's too long. That is that I pop a wheelie with the mower with a bout a 30 degree angle, thusly not making the mower eat up the full length of the overgrown grass in one pass. I was sure that would choke it up, and I didn't want to break this thing the first day that I got it. So I employed my technique on the high growth spots and then went back over it flush to get the cut low. I spent about 30 minutes in the front yard all said and done, needing to empty the bag twice, and the mower didn't show any signs of slowing down. Not only that, it handled the long grass better than my plug in electric that I got this to replace. Also, it's so light and maneuverable that my arms were far less taxed after mowing my lawn than with my previous corded electric mower. Now, full disclosure, I did have one of the front wheel axles bend a bit on this first mow day, causing the wheel to turn in a bit, but it hasn't caused me any problems, and when it does I'll happily order a new wheel. I've used this mower 3 weekends in a row now and it's still as awesome as the first mow. I don't know how it compares to other mowers in it's genre, but I got it because the reviews were positive, and were many. Just want to add my positive review to help others know this thing is worth buying. Word. ... show more
