Nowadays, the Japanese tools has become a popular tool in woodcrafting around the world due to its high quality. This is a Japanese Kanna SUIZAN's kanna is a small kanna that has one blade. It is simply composed of the kanna-dai (wooden body) and the kanna-mi (blade). One blade kannas are light to use and results in beautiful surfaces. HOW TO USE 1. Hold a kanna with both hands and pull towards you. 2. As your body weight moves, pull the kanna towards you at the same time. There is no need to apply excess power. Very easy to lurn how to use and adjust cuts very clean with little effort definitely a good buy for the price. Highly recommend this product for beginners and experience wood workers. ... show more

  • It is such fun to use it
Oh, well. I thought it was just a piece of junk at first look. But after I read up how to use them. It is such fun to use it! After an hour of practicing, I became pretty good using it. The blade is really easy to adjust if you just follow their instruction online. BTW, I am just a beginner in woodworking. ... show more

  • No sharpening required
Wow. For less than the cheep block planes at the big box stores you get an amazing out of the box useable finishing plane. Mine came in a in plastic wrap in no box. Was a little worried but after extending the blade down and some left and right taping. Done. Silly glass surface finish that no amount of sanding can top. Now keep in mind this is a finishing plane. So use whatever other method to shape and get to dimension. Then a few licks with this puppy and done. ... show more

  • Great smaller block plane
Great smaller block plane, fits my hand well (I'm a female woodworker). My only issue is adjusting the plane. I had to find the instructions on how to adjust it in a review someone wrote. I still have not been able to get it out of the block for sharpening purposes (although it arrived plenty sharp). I feel that is a somewhat minor issue as I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually. ... show more

  • Simple yet effective, needs tuning before use, great value
Very simple and feels great in the hand. Definitely requires tuning before use. The blade arrives suprissingly sharp 1. Flatten the bottom on 100-220 grit sandpaper on a flat surface 2. Flatten the back of the blade on wet stones 3. chalk or pencil the back of the blade and insert into plane, take out and check to see if remaining marks indicate flatness, if not flatten the reference area. These are just some basics to get you started and there are lots of good videos online about getting one of these in top shape. Don't expect much out of this unless you tune it up. ... show more

  • Be prepared to do plenty of manual tuning.
I returned this item. Even allowing time to adjust to ambient conditions, the blade and wedge fit so poorly I'd have had to put in more time tuning the dai than I wanted to invest. Beyond that, I cannot comment.

  • amazingly effective out of the box.
a few light taps will adjust it close enough to be a finishing plane. beautiful simple design. excellent value for money for small work. I am a hobbyist and make boxws, frames and simple furniture.

  • I love it :)
I wasn't very much into hand tools, so I bought this one to check out what was all the buz about. It turn in some sort of gateway drug because now I'm ordering more planes, chisels and saws... Be careful when installing the iron, doesn't take very much to have it setup, comes very sharp and makes beautiful shaves (for a begginer in hand tools) ... show more
