-Style Factor Edge Booster Extra Strength & Moisture Rich Pomade - I have thick, coarse type 4a/b hair. I am transitioning to natural hair for the first time in decades. I have been frustrated because I love slick ponytails. But since I started transitioning, I have yet to find a product that can lay all of my hair down without having any individual hairs pop up out of place. This edge control is good, but it still didn't solve the problem of my individual unruly hairs. I have tried adding an extreme hold gel on those select areas and tying my hair down, and that does seem to help. I'm still perfecting my strategy. But I appreciate that I am able to use this edge control with my gel and it doesn't turn white. The edge control does get my edges smooth and flat. I don't lay down baby hairs or anything. I just like my hairline to look sleek. I like that the pomade doesn't make your hair hard and crunchy the way gel does. But it kept my hair under control for a few days. I was able to add a bit of water to my hair every day to refresh it, and I just added a small amount of edge booster and my hair was looking great again.

This extra strength edge control gel does a great job of keeping edges sleek and in place all day. The hold is strong without making the hair feel stiff or overly crunchy. I like that it also adds moisture, so my edges don’t look dry or flaky after styling. It goes on smoothly and a little product is enough to get the job done. The shine it gives is a nice bonus, leaving a polished and without looking greasy. Overall, it’s a reliable option for long-lasting hold and smooth, defined edges.

This is a great brand for pomade/hair wax. I've used Style Factor many, many times, and will continue to order this brand in the future. The pomade is pretty thick, and more waxy than creamy. It's soft and easy to spread, especially after rubbing it between your hands to warm/soften it up even further. The wax-type pomades seem to hold better than the creamy ones, in my experience. If there's one thing that drives me bonkers, it's getting my hair all ready and the flyaways stuck down, and then partway through the day I glance in the mirror and see a few strands that have rebelled and are sticking back up again. Grr. With this stuff, though, it never happens. 100% success rate. No need to dampen my hair or reapply at any point during the day. I was a little concerned that this didn't have a scent described other than "violet crystal." It's always a little scary going in blind, especially if you're sensitive to smells. I was a little afraid that this would be some sort of floral nightmare. Thankfully, it wasn't that at all. The scent is light and pleasant, and almost smells a little like cologne? It's pretty faint, so it's not going to overwhelm the smells of your other hair products at all. The color of the pomade itself is kind of a medium amber. I rubbed some on the back of my hands just to see if it would stay amber or if the color would disappear, and the color completely disappeared. So this should be safe even if you have lighter hair tones. If you're going to use this every day, you might want to spring for the larger size to get a better bang-for-buck. But having a smaller container like this is handy both for countertop space and for travel (it's less than 3.4 ounces so it's carry-on friendly). I have a larger container of this stuff in a different scent that I use to refill the smaller container on my countertop. The brand also has tons of different scents available, and so far all of the wax-like pomades I've gotten from them have all worked just as well, so choose whichever one calls to you the most.
