  • Carries 160lbs with no problem after adding support brace Carries 160lbs with no problem after adding support brace
I was looking for a way to transport our bikes on our travel trailer and found this to be the best setup at a reasonable cost. I am not a fan of putting the bikes on the back of the trailer where you can't see them. It is also a lot rougher ride on the back bumper. Set-up took longer than I initially expected, but the results were worth it. You will need a 3/8 drill bit that is capable of drilling through metal. Also as many stated some of the bolts that are included are not long enough. (I think 2 to be exact). One downfall is this rack is only rated for 100lbs. When you take into account that a bike rack or other hitch attachment is going to be at least 20 lbs it leaves you with 80 lbs or less for cargo. I wanted this to haul 4 bikes on the front of my travel trailer. 4 bikes at roughly 35lbs each and a 20lb bike rack would put me at roughly 160lbs. I ended up fabricating an additional support bar that connects the bike rack to the steel crossmember bar on the trailer that the battery sits on. I have driven roughly 300 miles on the highway with no problems. The rack hardly moves and is very sturdy. (I loaded the bikes without the support bar on and there is a lot of back and forth movement) Another thing to keep in mind is the amount of tongue weight you will be adding. The rack itself is over 50lbs so I've added over 200lbs with 4 bikes. Overall I am very happy with the functionality of this rack. While it may not work for everyone the quality of the rack itself is great ... show more

  • Excellent product
Very sturdy and durable. Works perfectly. I would highly recommend this if like us you have a pop-up camper and can't attach a bike rack to the back bumper (too weak to support one). It is a bit challenging to install, but I can't see a way around it. They leave you to drill the holes in order to secure it to the trailer frame. So in order to allow it to be flexible to fit your exact trailer, the final hole to put in long screws through the tubing is left to the owner/consumer. The good news is that all the hardware to mount it and the framing is super strong and thick. A bit heavy, but rest assured it will hold your bikes securely. ... show more

  • Takes more than an hour to install! Takes more than an hour to install!
This rack was very sturdy once we got it installed. It was quite tedious to get it just right. You have brackets that you bolt on that part is fine. Except you have to continuously adjust the brackets and the round bars are very adjustable. That part is nice until you need to drill your holes. The metal is very sturdy, so you'll need a good drill bit and a powerful drill and then you are trying to drill through round bars. We thought the bars would probably come with pre drilled holes. This is not the case. It makes it very adjustable, but if you're not used to doing a lot of drilling through metal, it can be a pain. ... show more

  • Great quality and fit.
I mounted this on the tongue of my bumper pull camper and it works great. The bikes are now carried above my propane tanks, out of the way. This is a solid, heavy duty rack. It holds my standard bike and my wife's bike easily.

  • Great quality and price
This bunk is exactly as described. Easy to assemble and install, built solid and fits perfectly. There were minor parts missing and the manufacturer responded to my e mail promptly and sent the parts quickly. Thank you

  • Sturdy frame Sturdy frame
I like the build and universal design. Took a little figuring to get my mounting location identified. I had to move the trailer light junction box away from the frame to accommodate the hitch’s mounting bracket. I drilled one of the existing mounting holes in the junction box so that I could use one of the hitch’s mounting bolts to secure it to the camper (see photo), then I grounded the box to the camper frame. Once the hitch was installed, I attached a 2 bike carrier. After placing the bikes in the carrier, I felt there was too much weight cantilevered over the propane tanks. After a trip to the hardware store purchasing some electrical strut and other hardware, I was able to fashion a bracket to fasten to my tongue jack. I had a couple old truck shocks laying around and they fit perfectly on my bike rack and secured to my newly installed strut bracket. (See Photo). This eliminated the bouncy nature of the cantilevered bike rack and provides a dampened cradle for my bikes while we are towing. ... show more

  • Sturdy Rack Mount - Install Leaves Much to be Desired Sturdy Rack Mount - Install Leaves Much to be Desired
Overall, the Stromberg Bike Bunk is a very sturdy piece of equipment. What is great about the Bike Bunk is its ability to allow user to utilize a tow receiver mounted bike rack. The flaw of most travel trailers and fifth wheels is that when using a standard receiver or bumper mounted receiver at the rear of the RV the forces (whiplash) are much different than on the back of a standard car/truck often causing catastrophic mount failure. To make matters worse, the driver cannot see bikes in this configuration to check to see if they are safe. This is where the Stromberg excels it allows you to add a 2" standard receiver on the A-frame of your trailer which is subjected to much less whiplash forces and lends driver visibility. It would still likely be best practice to purchase an "RV Rated" bike rack with a 2" receiver (although 1 1/4" receivers can be adapted up if that's what you own already). This all sounds great, so why the drop of two stars? Simply, installation was a large pain. I consider my self pretty handy. Most things I have zero issues installing or fixing. This mount however, is designed to fit almost all trailers. Stromberg accomplishes this by leaving the mounting position up to the installer. Creating a situation that forces you to drill 3/8" holes on the top to attach the cross bar as well as through the mounts on the A-frame supports. While none of the drilling is through the actual A-frame. The position for drilling is rather unnatural if you attempt to drill during during the steps on the instructions (Drill doesn't fit in place for some installs). I would've just removed 1 star for this. However, after drilling holes and taking the mount apart several times to do so correctly I found out the factory holes were not in alignment. To overcome I expanded the holed I drilled on the support poles to 1/2" on one side to allow the bolt to move. With some wiggling I managed to get the mount installed. Again, once installed it is a stout rack Stromberg just dropped the ball on instructions and quality control. Buy the rack expecting to spend a good 2 hours installing. ... show more

  • Very sturdy Very sturdy
Install was simple for the most part. Finding the right angle and positioning was easy. I ended up using a bit I already had and a drill press to make the holes. Not too difficult, it has enough clearance so the 20Lb propane tank can still be taken out, and the end result is just what we needed.
