  • Cost effective, functions as advertised
This unit has checked all the boxes as a replacement for my 2010 JK Sport. Installation- Installation was relatively straightforward, Stinger’s YouTube video helped a lot but I noticed mine came in a metal encasing which I had to remove to get at the mounting screw holes for the unit. Overall it took me about 3 hours, but I didn’t have a backup camera or anything else to hook into it. Connectivity- So far, I’ve had great luck with CarPlay. Unit powers up upon start and almost instantly connects to my phone. The wireless CarPlay works better than a lot of cars I’ve driven with organic CarPlay. UI- the screen is easy to manipulate and pretty fast, as in there’s not a noticeable lag that I’ve seen. The stinger home menu is a bit dated, but I’d imagine most people will be in CarPlay or android auto anyways. I like the auto-dimming screen, but it gets just a little too dim for me at night and I’ve noticed I had to turn it up a bit. Sound quality is great, there’s a noticeable difference from the OEM head unit, even without other aftermarket additions. Looks- as other reviewers have mentioned, the 6.8” unit looks like it was meant to be there. It doesn’t obviously look like an add-on, which was important to me because I don’t heavily mod my jeep. Gripes- I haven’t figured out how to disable the rear camera view (I don’t have a rear camera), so whenever I put the car in reverse there’s just a large “NO SIGNAL DETECTED” that I can’t figure out how to remove or tell the unit I don’t have one. The camera UI will not let me turn off rear view camera. Overall, I love the unit so far and definitely feel as if it was worth the $379. Quality of life in the wrangler with CarPlay and great audio is much better now, and I’m not having any buyer’s remorse. I’d recommend it! ... show more

  • Good enough, simple to install
Very easy to install! Basically a plug and play system that works good. If you switch the cigarette lighter to the charger port they provide in the kit, you're limiting yourself by eliminating a possible 12v port.

  • Installation May Have Damaged My Jeep!
I purchased a Stinger 6.8” Double DIn unit and installed it in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKU, following the instructions from the official Stinger installation video precisely. The installation went very well, with no issues and with no modifications required. I was very happy with my new Stinger unit, but realized that the time, day, and date would not automatically update via GPS. I contacted Stinger support and was asked to try to update the firmware. Despite having a properly formatted, correct size flash drive with the latest .zip update downloaded, the unit would see the drive, but not the update. After informing Stinger support, I was sent a new unit to replace the defective one. Once receiving the new unit, I removed and installed the new unit exactly as I had installed the previous unit. Everything seemed to work fine, including the date and time. However, immediately after the installation, the first time I opened the door to my Jeep the door ding sounded as if the key was left in the ignition despite there being no key. The security light on the dashboard started blinking and the key fobs no longer worked to remotely unlock the doors. I immediately contacted Stinger support and was asked to send a video explaining the issue, which I did. I also tried to update the firmware, which again didn’t work on the new unit. I tried removing and holding the battery cables together, removing applicable fuses, removed, and even replaced the new unit with the original Stinger unit- none of which helped. In desperation, I brought my vehicle to my local Jeep dealership. They were able to clear some codes and turn off the security light, but couldn’t figure out the issue of the door chime or fobs not working. They charged me $260 for the service. I am thinking that the fix will be to replace the entire security and possibly ignition system which would be thousands of dollars. Stinger offered a $150 refund, but would otherwise not help me pay for the repairs. So, now I have a Jeep with several major issues that occurred at the exact moment I installed a Stinger unit. Maybe a coincidence, but I would not recommend purchasing a Stinger product. ... show more

  • Bottom line: Solid. There are a couple of things that would have been nice to know...
Size: 10"
Overall, I'm very happy with the Stinger system. Performance is much better than stock (as you would hope for 1000 bucks), but there are some things that weren't documented - or are hidden in the fine print - that may sway your decision to go with this solution. My objective for this radio was to add CarPlay, retain steerin functionality, improve sound, and add some external cameras to my Jeep. I installed this system on a 2016 JKU with a Alpine Upgraded factory system. The system I went with was this STH10JK version of the kit, which includes the PAC tuner interface RP4-CH11, mounting brackets, USB socket replacement kit, antenna extension, and wiring harness. This is NOT the SR-JK11H kit. Which streamlines installation for JK 2011-18 models and includes the custom bezel for the screen and readymade plug-n-play harnesses(and is likely the first view video installation guide's you'll come across on the interwebs.) This means you're going to have to do build the wiring harness yourself. Not that big of an issue for anyone whose prepared to install their own stereo. But this was the first thing that would have been nice to know. The kit is VERY EXCELLENTLY documented. Just read ALL the instructions. Second thing that's important to know is that if you are installing, like me, into an upgraded factory system WITH amplifier, you are not going to be able to utilize the full spectrum of audio balance and equalizer provided by the UN1810 head unit. (this took a call to Tech Support to figure out.) Due to the way the OEM radio talks to the OEM Amplifier (CANBus), some of the crossover functionality isn't supported. And due to the same limitation, fading between front and back speakers isn't supported. So as long as you leave the fader centered - you'll get nice sound, but not fully customizable. [Fading sound balance backward in the vehicle reduces the output to all speakers.] You can install a aftermarket amplifier to return this functionality but this will take rewiring (and extra investment.) ** Want to underscore this will not be limitation for the non-factory amplifier installed jeep owner. ** Third, installing this system will completely disable the center console data port. You may be able to re-route the USB with an extension (there are two USB ports on the head unit) but doing so will render one of the two 'new' USB connections on the dash un-usable. Next weekend's project will be finding some way to restore the center console USB it as a USB charging port only.... but it would have been good to know before hand. Fourth, only one of the two ports is Android Auto/ CarPlay compatible. Again, not a huge deal, but would have been nice to know. Some of the less documented features: HDMI input (if you want to run a Raspberry Pi/XBox/DVD player or whatever.) RCA inputs (choose your own input adventure for external players laserdisk/DAT/whatever). A metric TON (well, four at least) of VIDEO inputs for external cameras. System update is a pretty painless process. 4GB USB with zipped update image downloaded from Stinger's website. While the User Interface is fairly well featured, there are some things that I wish were more customizable (like hiding tabs/icons that you don't use (looking at you, Navigation and Favorites) but I hope they continue to update the product. The UN1810's operating system is built on Android OS so I'm hopeful. CarPlay colors on the screen seem to be, as has been mentioned, a bit washed out. Unfortunately I don't think there's a setting available that fixes that. Final word: This version of the kit is fairly straight-forward install for folks with some experience in installing consumer aftermarket electronics. Performance is solid. Display is very nice looking. It met my objectives of 1) adding CarPlay to my Jeep, 2) retaining steering controls 3) adding external cameras and 4) improving the sound system (mostly) so I'm happy. I'm not sure its worth the MSRP, but there are limited options in this arena that accomplish the task (Insane Audio, and the Alpine WRA series) and this is the best value among a very limited competitive field. ... show more

  • Easy install and makes my stock speakers sound great. Easy install and makes my stock speakers sound great.
I decided to purchase this radio over other options simply because of price and the fact it’s plug and play. Other options required modulators to allow my steering wheel buttons to work. The install was easy, and there are videos to help the process. I would highly recommend for someone who wants to upgrade, not spend a bunch of money, and doesn’t have a lot of radio install experience. ... show more

  • Definitely worth it Definitely worth it
Let me start by saying I'm not a gadget or sterio guy. I buy a head unit only when the OEM one fails and I base my purchase off of: > OEM compatibility (will the radio integrate with the steering wheel controls) > Aesthetics (does it look like it belongs in the vehicle) > Features (XM compatibility, blue tooth/ Android auto and customizable features such as cameras if I choose to aff on later) > Price point. I'm not spending $1200 for a head unit. This stinger radio checked all the boxes. Installation was incredibly easy, true plug and play installation. XM compatible (you have to buy the XM tuner kit seperate, approximately $50). Android auto (also has apple car play) does exactly what it's supposed to. Works with all the steering wheel buttons like it should (only difference is the VR button now activates the virtual assistant). Over all, it fits and looks OEM, like it's supposed to be there. I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend this to anyone who is particular like myself. 10/10 for sure. ... show more

  • Worth every penny. It’s a huge upgrade from the stock radio and most aftermarket head units
Size: 10"
INSTRUCTIONS: are simplified for just about anyone with little knowledge of basic wiring/electronics. AUDIO: Sound Quality is excellent! Plenty of options with EQ & time alignment. SCREEN: it’s BIG not too much but just right, Image quality is crisp and bright, touchscreen response is dead on. BLUETOOTH/CARPLAY: both work perfectly. No problems connecting or with functionality. CAMERAS: The side camera feature is really nice, the image takes over the whole screen when the camera pops on after the blinker is turned on. It would be nice if it only used half of the screen so you could still see Maps ect... It would be awesome if they did camera stitching with all 4 cameras while you backup. INTERFACE: I’m one of those people that likes lots of features and customizable settings. Unfortunately that isn’t the case. You can change the color of the lights on the buttons and choose from a handful of backgrounds and that’s about it. You can’t add any additional apps. The Radio software needed to be updated, doing it isn’t hard you just need a USB memory stick and just follow the instructions on their website. It’s definitely worth it cause you get more features and they cleaned up the interface. ... show more

I had to replace this item with warranty. Great company but mediocre product. I ended up returning it and the cameras. PITA to install and never worked well. Co-worker got same one and they have issues with it nearly monthly. Your results may be different but not worth it for me. Great idea but poor execution. ... show more
