There is beauty in the simplicity of this chair. Sure, you don't have a million dials and switches on the base for fine tuning, but it hits all the basics and while I initially was taken back by the fact that it only has 3 settings for the backrest support (rigid, firm and soft), I have found that's all that I really need. I should note that mine arrived with more of the assembly done than the Steelcase videos even indicated. For instance, the armrests were already installed and I didn't have to attach the back to the base. Made me wonder if mine was a return, demo or something like that but it appears to be in like new condition. Anyway, I had it all together and adjusted to my liking in all of 5 min. which is great! I feel like this chair corrects a lot of my bad habits w/out being a nag about it. I find myself sitting with improved posture and with proper support at the three key touch points- Arms, back, butt. I would say that if there is a weak link among those three, it'd maybe be at the arms as they sort of vaguely move around laterally sometimes and I find myself sort of resetting them every so often to where I think they should be for me. They also are fairly thin and lightweight so I have some concern about durability but only time will tell there. Steelcase claims the chair can support up to 400lbs, which to me, indicates that it should hold up under the kind heavy daily use that I bought it for as an intensive home office user. Some complaints in reviews I read ahead of purchase were related to the seat cushion being too hard. I would tend to disagree there as I think it strikes a perfect balance of comfort/supportiveness. As with a bed mattress, softer isn't always better in my experience. As for the rest, it feels like an upscale economy chair rather than anything more luxurious with lots of plastic but it's all well-done. I guess for the price paid, that's fair and my wife indicated that she prefers this to any other desk chair that I've brought home thus far. I'd say that's high praise. I think that unless you are willing to go closer to a grand or more, this is a great option- Particularly if you are under 6' tall. If you are larger, you will likely want to add the optional headrest for additional support as the chair back covers me at 5'10" just barely. Otherwise, maybe steer clear of this one, but for the average size adult, it really shines.

It's really incredible how the second you turn 30, your body immediately starts to fall apart. Gone are the days of stuffing my feet into any-old shoes, using whatever pillow was around, and sitting in what BS computer chair my dirt-poor ass could afford. My body pays dividends for living while cheap, and now I have to shell out some money for the things I use every day. But I'm still poor, so y'know, like, within reason... Which led me to this chair. Is is pretty? No. Is it the best out there? Also no, because the best one is literally $1300. This guy looks like the corporate-flavored death of childhood dreams, but I weighed the reviews against the cost on several other chairs, and I settled on this one. I wasn't thrilled with it once I built and sat in it. I just ate $400, I wanted to be impressed or something, but I wasn't. It was just a chair. (And the armrest articulations are pretty baffling tbh, but admittedly fun to idly screw around with.) I immediately stopped registering it's presence under me entirely after a few minutes. BUT THAT'S THE THING. I didn't think about the chair! Because I didn't have to! It wasn't hurting me. No bolts digging into my butt, no growing back pain, no fighting with nitpicky settings. I can sit in this thing for hours and hours and never once think about it. It's GREAT. I don't need a chair to bleep my bleep, I just need it to be a chair and not ruin my body. Which this thing does! Very well! This chair chairs way better than any of my chairs chaired before. Worth it.

I bought this for use at home because my workplace has one of these chairs in every office. So to me that's what it came down to. Go with something proven if you need to be at your desk a lot. My one nitpick is that it didn't come with assembly instructions but the design is so intuitive that you can figure out how to put it together without it. Seriously, the pieces only fit one way, so that's about as foolproof as you can get. Not gonna lie, $400 is a hefty chunk of change for a chair but it was well worth it.

The thing I care about is comfort. There is really only one serious question for an office chair: can I sit in this thing all day and still be comfortable? For me, the answer for this chair is: yes. Does anyone really care about crap like assembly. Whether it takes 2 hours or 2 minutes to set up I'm probably going to be sitting in the thing for 2 years. Set up is just a fraction of the time spent in it. But yes. Super duper easy to set up too. No tools: NONE. Gets no better than that for my blood pressure. I'm 6ft, 210 lbs, muscular, and I like long walks on the beach and this chair rocks.

It is so comfortable, adjustable height and helps me want to maintain proper posture. Just coming off two spine surgeries so I needed something comfortable, sturdy and ergonomically adjustable. This did the trick. I ordered the assembly service (because of the surgery). The gentleman arrived on time and removed the parts from the packaging. It was two parts. He set the seated part on the legs and it was ready to go. 5 minutes max. We had a good laugh about it. So unless you're recovering from surgery or not able to lift about 25/30 lbs, the assembly couldn't have been easier. I've had it a few weeks now and it is fantastic.
