As a petite woman, "standard" chairs are not made to fit me. I'm 5'3", and the average chair doesn't go low enough for my feet to hit the ground, the seat is always too long for my knees to clear the end of the chair, etc. I went on a mission to find an ergonomic chair for myself, and this one seemed like a clear choice. I'm so glad I purchased it! I am able to adjust the chair to a very comfortable and ergonomic position for myself. I also suffer from chronic coccyx pain due to an automobile accident a few years ago, and this chair does not cause me any discomfort in that area. (I was worried about this, since some reviews said that the chair caused coccyx pain. This is totally not the case for me.) The chair has wonderful lumbar support (I like it firm, but it can be adjusted to be softer) and I enjoy that I can lean back in the chair as well while still having my back supported. I find the cushioning in this chair to be plenty soft (some reviews say that it is too firm). It isn't like sitting on a pillow or anything, but it also isn't hard and it doesn't cause me any discomfort. Though I am petite, this chair is so adjustable that I am confident it would be a great fit for basically any person. The chair was reasonably good but the build quality for something this price needs to be better. You can see the loose plastic panels on the armrests in the photos. The backrest also moved a significant amount when in the locked position which I thought was a manufacturing defect as well. After corresponding with the manufacturer they claimed that some people "don't like the feel of the backrest" and they recommended that I return the chair to Amazon. Even though I sent photos and video about the issue to them, which I do not thing they viewed, I decided not to argue with them and returned the chair. I ended up getting a Haworth Zody instead and just as I suspected, the Zody doesn't move at all when in the locked position unlike this chair which was just poorly made. You can roll the dice and get this but after dealing with how Amazon processes refunds on big items like this, I would not recommend it. Its been 2 weeks+ since the courier picked up the item for return to Amazon and Amazon still hasn't refunded me my money. ... show more

The Good: This is a very comfortable and ergonomic chair that has made my work from home experience much better! The entire chair feels like quality, and it looks classy. It also comes fully assembled, which is amazing. Lastly, it's VERY customizable. You can move the height, lumbar support, customize upper or lower back stiffness, and more. The Bad: The only bad I found which is honestly minimal, is the arm rests are so customizable that sometimes they move when you don't want them to. That being said, they barely move. It hasn't bothered me yet. The Bottom Line: I'm not going to act like it's not expensive, it is. That being the case, you get what you pay for here. If you just use your desk for an internet search once in a while, you don't need this chair. Go to Costco and get a $300 chair. If, however, you work at home from your desk all day like I do, it's SO worth it. ... show more

    • You Need to Know what Makes YOU comfortable

I want to start by saying this is a great product. It is well made. Kudos to Steelcase for sending a fully assembled chair. It’s a solid build. You can see that there is nothing cheap about it, even though it is plastic in most areas, it felt strong and durable. So, why the poor rating? I just could not get comfortable. You will need to do a good job tightening the settings or it will feel like you are rocking each time you sit back. Reviews I read before buying frequently mentioned the seat being too firm. I have to agree with that assessment. It’s just a slight bit too firm for me. I have a gel seat pad (only about half inch thick) but that extra half inch made a difference when I used the pad. The four way arms are a nice feature, but they do not lock in place, so they will move around on you. My biggest problem, and the thing that dealt the failing grade, is the placement of the plastic base of the arms right up to the seat sides. I am around 260. I am not fat in the rear, but I am no skinny Minnie either. My hips were being pinched by those plastic fittings every time I sat back in the seat. That hurts after 8 hours. I honestly wanted to love this chair. But for the price, I don’t want to have to modify the chair or how I sit to feel comfortable. This chair may be an excellent fit for some people. I can’t say it’s not good quality or well made. But you really should find one in a store and sit in it before you buy it. Now, huge praise to Amazon and Steelcase. I sent it back for a refund. They sent a truck to pick up the chair, no charge. And my account was credit right away. I wish you luck in your chair search. If this is the chair for you, I am sure it will be so for years to come. ... show more

I ordered this site unseen after searching the internet for a chair that was highly adjustable since I am only 4'11". I needed to make sure it fit me. This seat has been made for many years due to its popularity and I can see why. Every single thing is adjustable from the height, depth of the seat, height and angle of arms, the back of the seat has about 3 or 4 adjustments. I spend a lot of time sewing so this is perfect for me. Well worth every dime! PS- I ordered it on Amazon because after trying hundreds of chairs locally I was really doubtful of keeping this chair (free returns and Amazon has always been hasssle free). It was a last resort before just compromising and purchasing a chair that didn't feel completely comfortable. Update: I still love my chair and all of the adjustable features!!
