I am very happy with my purchase of this tripod. It is well built and should last many lifetimes. I have used it with a Lodge 4 quart, Coleman 7.5 quart, and Lodge 10 quart dutch ovens. I also put a Grillmark Chrome Cooking Grate 25" on four chains connected to a 1.5" ring to cook hotdogs and hamburgers on. I will upload a photo. I found it to be too short for the 25" cooking grate without digging a hole for the fire or just using coals to cook over. It works well for cooking over wheel rims or sunken fire pits where the flames are lower than a typical campfire. I have purchased a Lodge 5TP2 Tall Boy tripod for almost twice as much as I paid for this one. It gives me more height to adjust how much heat gets to the food while it is still centered over the fire. With this tripod, I have found that in order to simmer some soup and still have a decent size campfire I need to offset the tripod to the side of the fire. It is a great tripod and I am happy with my purchase, however, I always go for the taller tripod first for a campfire and this one if I am cooking over the firepit. I hope this helps.

The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because you can't use it on a flat hard surface without something to keep the legs from sliding. They do not connect at the top in a manner that allows you to lock them into place. You must be able to push the bottom of the legs into the dirt to keep them in place. I was not expecting that. Anyway if you're using this on the ground you'll be fine, not on a wood or concrete floor though. Once you figure out how to keep the legs in place the tripod is great. It stands about 37" high with the legs spread 39" inches apart, which is the minimum I felt I could spread them and still have a safe sturdy tripod. Of course you can spread them further apart if you need a shorter tripod, or take a risk and put them closer together if you need a bit more height. The way I had it set up the hook for the chain hung 31" off the ground and then the chain can be attached to hand your pot at whatever height you need if the hook placement is not good enough. The package comes with tripod, hook, and enough chain to just about reach the ground if you don't double it up, so you have everything you need except the pot. I am very happy with the quality.

I bought this tripod a while ago on a whim. I actually ended up needing it and it worked very well. I need to have more on hand. Great for camping. Doesn’t rust, very sturdy and durable. They did not use cheap materials on this tripod!

Fair price. Durable and strong individual components. Chain in online images is longer than what you actually get, but the one provided is long enough. The reason for the lower marks (3s), is because no matter how you interlock the top of the 3 legs (including a shown on the packaging) it does not feel stable and shifts around very easily. For that reason I am having to purchase a tripod table to incorporate into/onto the legs to prevent it from shifting when I have a full pot of food on the fire. If there is a perfect way to stabilize this tripod, it is not represented anywhere on the packaging and no paperwork was provided for specific guidance. An additional note for the manufacturer. My product was received in an Amazon box with absolutely no damage to the outside. However, 1) the product box inside was damaged, 2) the tripod was not inserted completely into the canvas bag which left about 6-8 inches of bag to just be jammed into the bottom of the box resulting in 3) the end of the box bulging out. It was taped in this position at the time of manufacture. Looks like a quality control issue. Pictures above.
