  • How to Not Break Your Rod.
Style: 5'6" Ultra-light/Fast 2 Pc.
I have the 5'6" ultra light pole. If you do not match your line and drag to your pole, it will break. It is the fishing line that breaks the pole, not a stump or a fish. If you go to St. Croix website it has a chart for what pound test line is appropriate for each pole. For mine it was 4 to 6 lb line. I opted for a 4 lb line. Then your have to set your drag to 1/2 that or less which for me was a 2 lb drag. Then instead of breaking -- the drag releases. Braided line? Your pole will break. Fishing for bass with a pole rated for 4 lb test? Your pole will break. Using 20 lb line with a 10 lbs of drag? Your pole will break. While its simple math, this much may be true: you may not be smart enough to know better. For the small ultra light use 4 lb line and a 2 lb drag. There are hand held scales on Amazon you can use. ... show more

  • Get em if you can find em.
Style: 6'6" Medium/Fast 4 Pc.
These are the best. Hard to find these days. Anything below this price point is Chinese garbage. St. Croix backs the product but you won't likely ever need a repair or replacement. I have the 6'6" medium 4 piece and the 5'6" ultra light 4 piece. Both are great backcountry smallmouth set ups.

  • I mean, come on, it's St. Croix...
Style: 5'0" Ultra-light/Moderate 1 Pc.
I own several St. Croix rods. This isn't my favorite one, but it's a great entry-level to mid-level rod, and I find myself going back to it time and time again. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade from their Ugly Stik - Not saying those are bad by any means, but St. Croix is in a different class altogether. ... show more

  • snapped in half fourth trip out
Style: 7'0" Medium-light/Fast 2 Pc.
Under the weight of a fairly small trout (3 pounds or so) , this rod snapped straight in half the fourth time my son used it. My dad had warned me that St Croix rods were inconsistent quality. Really crappy .

  • Very nice
Style: 6'0" Medium/Fast 1 Pc.
Package arrived in perfect condition and the rod feels incredibly light and yet feels very durable. Eyelets are smooth and in perfect alignment, looking forward to stream and river fishing .

  • Great rod, expensive, but great.
Style: 6'0" Medium-light/Fast 1 Pc.
I fish a small river/large creek about 150 days a year. I had been using a St Croix 6' 6" ML Triumph until I made a stupid mistake and broke it. The replacement program will replace it for $70 + shipping, but that's not far off a new one. So I bought a 6' ML Triumph this time. I really like it a lot more than the old one. This one is easier to work in and around trees, and has plenty of backbone for hook sets. It's expensive (by my standards anyway), but I think it's phenominal. If you can afford it, it's worth it. ... show more
