This is hands down the nicest rod I've purchased. Originally got the 7'6" med-hev/fast to put a Daiwa Saltist 4000 on w/ 20lb line. But I think I'm going to put a Penn Conflict II Long Cast 6000 w/ 40lb line on this rod instead. Stiffer than I anticipated, but at the same time works out well. The seller was great and accepted return. This is not a bad review of the seller just the rod. I sent this letter to St. Croix and received no response. As a first time purchaser of one of their rods I was surprised by the non-existent customer support. Hello St. Croix, Thank you for your time. I recently purchased your mojo salt spinning rod 7'0 MH from one of your dealers on amazon. I am based in Carlsbad, CA and this is the first rod of yours I have purchased. Unfortunately, I'm having an issue that I was hoping you could give me some insight on. I paired the rod with a Penn Slammer 3 6500 with 50lb berkeley pro spec braid. I have this rig set up for distance casting jigs/poppers onto finicky schools of tuna here in San Diego. When I retrieve the jig, the braid is not circumventing the guides, it is actually only touching the lower 1/2 off the guide and then "Crossing" the right center of the guide to the left center. This is resulting in a snapping sensation and noise on retrieve. I can't tell if the rod is just a 1 off problem. The rod has 8 guides but the guides are very perpendicular in their angle to the rod, contrasting the lower angle set on my Penn Carnage 2 7'0. Since the reel is new as well I thought ok maybe the reel is off. I put it on my carnage 2 and there is no problems, which confirmed the rod was in fact the issue. This has rendered the rod not usable, unfortunately. I wanted to make you aware and get your feedback before returning it, which I hope Amazon will fulfill, it's been about a month since delivery.     • Being able to withstand the challenge of reeling in Yellow Tail & Blue Fin Tuna!!!

Dislike: First fishing excursion and discovered the rubber bottom heel on rod detached and is lost. Can the rubber heel be replaced per warranty? Please advise. Like: Strong rod performance is excellent!

    • Rod broke in half, crappy warranty
Used once bottom fishing for red snapper, broke the rod in half while reeling up something from the bottom. Waited a month and a half to hear from st. Croix and they want to charge me $50 for a replacement. Garbage rod, company and customer service. The star rods and crowders I have now are far better. ... show more
