It works, it seems a little touchy. We also have had issues with it activating well inside the border in a car, science stuff for why. The important question, what does it feel like? I tried it! On 4 it feels like a buzz toy. On 7 it feels like a middleschoolers chewing gum buzzer toy. Either way after the initial surprise I could take it with a some discomfort. Have purchased two fence systems from SportDog and four collars. One collar would not take a charge right out of the box. Called up customer care and someone was one the phone immediately to help me. Asked what the problem was and the a replacement would be on the way in no charge. Before the call was over a return shipping label was in my inbox. The fence itself is a bit of work to bury. For those installing one use a gas lawn edger to make a nice shallow trench. You will also want to use dull device to poke the wire into the trench and a weighted mallet to beat the gap in the trench back shut. It took a 8 hour day working by myself to bury 1,400 feet of wire. For those new to training systems follow the manual provided and your pup will be trained in no time. Do not use the shock settings out the gate it will only scare your pup and delay training. Our three pups are use to collars on remotes and no a tone and vibe as a correction followed by a shock if they fail to follow the tone and verbal commands. With the flags and set to the default tone and vibe it took the pups following the manual no time at all to learn the "no go zones". We are on a lake where fenced in yards don't exist and would like to pups to run more free without constant verbal correction if they decide to get zoomies. Our year old golden bolted for some birds in the no go "towards the road" day one as we were introducing her to the boundary. With the tone vibe setting turned around and came back to us when she crossed the boundary at full speed. She wasn't scared but had the look of sorry mom and dad and we continued the introduction. The systems has nice features such as a line break audible tone and my favorite the ability to diel up or down the signal of the fence to make the containment area larger or smaller without moving the wire. One down side is that the system is not weatherproof and therefore needs an enclosure. ... show more

    • Great system but the SDF-100C is not compatible with other types of collars

I am a big fan of SportDog gear so when I needed an in-ground fence this was high on my list. One reason is that this kit comes with 1000 feet of wire. I fenced in about 2 acres so I bought an extra wire and flag kit to give me some extra wire to work with and have some left over. The only inconvenience I ran into was collar compatibility. Do not be confused with the other reviews that say the Petsafe UL-275 collar will work. ***The UL-275 is not compatible with the SDF-100C. IT IS compatible with the SDF-100A and the SDF-CT systems, but the SDF-100C is on a different frequency than the other two as well as other Petsafe containment systems. Therefore the SDF-CR collar is needed specifically for the 100C model. Had I realized this before installation I might have opted for the SDF-100A model so I could have compatibility with other types of collars if ever needed. Installation was not hard and the instructions are straight forward. I rented a trenching and cable laying machine and spent a weekend on this project. I have not had the fence in for long but if my past experience with SportDOG gear stays consistent I have no doubt this system will last and hold up. Ultimately, I am pleased with this product. The only reason I gave a 4 star and not 5 is due to the lack of collar compatibility ***specifically for the SDF-100C rechargeable model. ... show more

    • A GOOD buy! Works fantastic!
Style: 1 Dog System
We got this just so our dogs wouldn't want to dig under their fence and get out and it definitely works for that! They, obviously, could see the fence boundary so no having to learn the boundary with the flags. If you zip tie this to your fence the dogs seem to learn it pretty fast. Took our Aussie and retriever about an hour max. We put the distance to shock near the fence boundary on zero on the box so they could get about a foot or closer to the fence before it actually shocked them and this worked perfect since we just wanted it to shock them if they tried to sit there and dig under the fence. Our Aussie did fine with the lowest shock setting on her collar but our retriever was tougher and needed a notch higher! Overall the fence worked perfectly the way it should and the collars are working just as explained! Learning to adjust the box distance from fence to shock and collar intensity on the dog is the only thing that took us a min but it's pretty self explanatory. We put our box under our back porch for our "weatherproof spot" and ran the wires along the edge of the house to the pen. Unless there's a flaw with this from just a manufacture malfunction out of the box, it shouldn't give anyone any trouble if you set it up the way the manual says! So if you're reading reviews to decide on which boundary system you should buy I'd recommend this one for sure! ... show more
