The 1.5-inch Bunkie Board , Split Bunkie Board provides a surface foundation for any platform beds, bunks and daybeds. It adds support to the mattress and will keep mattress stay in good shape thus extending the life of your mattress. It will give a firm bottom support for the mattress and raises the mattress up for about 1.5 inches. When a mattress is placed directly on slats or metal spring, the mattress will have the tendency to rip or sink. These can be avoided with the use of a Bunkie board. Using a Bunkie board doubles the mattress' life expectancy. This Bunkie board is a good alternative in lieu of a box spring that may be too high for day beds. It will give the bed a lift without adding much height. This Bunkie board is strong enough to be used directly on bed frame in lieu of a box spring.     • Here's the whole truth!
This bunkie board came in one piece, not two. It fit perfectly under a regular twin mattress (not XL). I had asked the question how many slats are in this board and got the answer of 9. No. There are 7 slats. This is not a solid board like plywood and it's not meant to be. Bought this to replace a 15 year old existing bunkie board and got exactly what we had. It does give extra support but not so much you're going to notice it that much. What it will do is extend the life of your mattress double or even triple the time than without one. After reading many reviews, I hope this one will help others! ... show more

My mattress was sinking like the Titanic. I'm not a skinny lady but JEESH talk about a nightly battle of the positions. Roll to far one way and get jabbed in the back with some metal bar in the middle of the bed. Roll the other way and the blankets took on a life of their own. And GOD FORBID you actually want to SIT on the bed... You're taking your life into your hands. Possibly sinking into the abyss never to be seen again.. then... (Cue angelic music and lights) IT ARRIVED!!! NO MORE does the bed take on a life of it's own. It has been TAMED not unlike the unicorn finding the maiden in the forest. We bought a king size memory foam box mattress about 3 months ago, and decided to use a platform bed with it so that we no longer needed a bulky box spring. That, come to find out, was the wrong decision. Even though the slats are pretty close together, there just wasn't enough support. The slats started to squeak, and the bed was sagging as well.
