  • Adventures in DIY installs ;-)
If you have priced other racks, you know that this is an unbelievably low price. Well made, but there are installation issues. Starting with the manual... pictures are all of rack, but title and one description are for a different product. i.e. "Disconnect Headlight Harness???" Tips... it's not clear, but keep the four mounts and gaskets separate... they are left/right and that dictates front/back. There are faint reversed "R" and "L" stamps on the inside of the mounts, but the L/R gaskets are not marked. The molded mount inserts need to be beveled or they will not seat in Honda's metal guide. A rubber mallet and multiple tries are necessary to get the mounts to fully seat. When seated, there should be 1/4" or more space below the heads of the mounting T-Nuts when they are resting on mounting bolts. I suggest drilling the mounting bolt holes in the molded ends so the heads will fully seat... otherwise, the full force is on a narrow ridge in the mounting hole. Using socket or screwdriver hex bits will save a huge amount of time over using the enclosed allen wrenches. Don't tighten the small screws until the mounts are secure and flush. See pictures for additional details. ... show more

  • Works good
Looks good on my CRV.

  • They work pretty well. Assembly is not that hard
They work pretty well. Assembly is not that hard. It did come with some instructions (unlike some other rails I tried out), however they were low quality. One step didn't even pertain to this product at all. One thing you'll want to look out for, one rail is longer than the other I believe. That is the front rail. That is not mentioned in the instructions and could be confusing. I had some trouble actually getting the racks mounted to our CR-V. The assembled item seemed slightly too long. So I had to put some muscle into bending and torquing it onto the mounting studs, otherwise I couldn't get the nuts threaded. Once those were threaded, tightening them made the racks go better into place. Once I had them mounted I put a set of kayak J mounts on them, which because of my improper (I think) assembly allowed them to slide back and forth on the racks. This caused the paint on the racks to peel off in some spots. Overall not bad for the price, expect some minor frustrations. ... show more

  • Tiene algo de maña la instalacion pero calzo muy bien.

  • The installation was not as easy as it sounded
The installation was not as easy as it sounded; however, I think it's in place now for good! You might need your own allen wrenches and it would probably be good to have a socket wrench with a small hex bit to tighten the rack after it's on the roof. The small allen wrench stripped after about 3 screws. One screw was not machined properly and I went to home depot to get replacements. Home depot had the screws for $1 with a hex head. During installation, I found that it was not necessary to over-tighten the small silver screws as they are held in place by the rack mounts. I put the sides on the cross-bars and then put it on the roof. The front bar is longer than the back bar and you must put them on that way. Also, the ends of the mounts must be pulled out as far as possible before tightening the silver screws so the rack goes in place. Also, the rubber gasket has three little circular tabs that must go into the holes in the plastic to get a tight fit. After that, I was able to tap down on the cross bar to push the mount down onto the screws and then tighten them easily. If it is hard to tighten the gold nuts then the rack probably needs to be set in place again. One thing that might have helped is that I put the gold nuts onto the honda screws and tightened them all the way before putting the rack in place. I think this helped the nuts to go one easier when the rack was in place. If you are trying too hard, it's probably not in place properly. The biggest thing is to make sure that the long crossbar is in the front and look for the R/L indicators on the mounts. If the crossbar holes don't match up with the mounts, spin it around and they will match up. There is some space between the crossbar and the mounts; however, I don't hear noise on the highway like one of the other reviewers. Be sure to read all the reviews before trying to install it because it was very helpful to me to hear the tips that other people provided. It took about 2 hours for me so if it takes longer than 15-20 minutes, don't get frustrated. ... show more
