  • Great for remodels
I had a shallow depth box with 6 sets of 14/2 coming in.. and it was stuffed. I wanted to add a dimmer switch and there was no room for it. Adding this box was easy. And the fact that it screws into a stud instead of using wings to attach to drywall leaves me confident that it won't break through. The builders also damaged the drywall around the box and used a king sized plate originally. One tip is I would use a large flat head screwdriver and press in the romex slots you intend to use. That way the plastic tab in the center pops open making them easier to feed in. ... show more

  • Quality 2 gang box
Needed to upgrade 1 gang box to 2 gang box to install a Bryant 14-30r outlet. This was easy to install for my first gang box replacement.

  • Electrical wall pass through project
Single Product Review: Madison new/old work boxes Discussion: These boxes are the best for outlets/electrical boxes which require structural strength. As these were going to house outlets, which I planned on plugging/unplugging often, I wanted extra strenth, especially the 2-gang holding both the twist lock plug (NEMA L5-15P), and a switch. These were easy to mount, using the included screws. Cut the dry wall a little on the tigher side, so that it will hold the box in place as it is screwed to the wall stud. Project Summary: I have a temporary solar/PV battery backup project in the garage, and I wanted to use the generated solar power inside the house. Previously has an extension cord running through the door to the garage, but that's not safe for a lot of reasons, so I wired up a couple of electrical boxes, and wired in a cut-out switch. The inside connections are a standard wall outlet, and the outside connection to the inverter is via a twist lock plug, for extra security. Project Recommendations: 1) I looked at a lot of generator inlet receptacles, but most were 20-30 amp, and I don't need that large (standard 15A), so I used a NEMA locking L5-15P instead. 2) As this was going to be a twist lock plug, I wanted to attach the electrical box to a stud if at all possible (vs. using the electrical box which clamps onto dry-wall). The Madison Electric Products boxes were perfect. I used a single gang on the inside box, and for the outside, I used a 2-gang so that I could also fit a cut-off switch. I mounted the 2-gang box rotated 90 degrees to the normal orientation for two reasons: a) I could screw it directly into the horitzontal stud, and b) I could mount the plug on the bottom, and the switch on the top. 3) When it comes to electrical parts, I generally go with Leviton, which I have had great success with. The only item I got that was a different brand was the right angle plug (which Leviton also offers, I just didn't see it when placing the order, otherwise I would have ordered that one instead). Conclusion: All the products listed in the review, and used for this project I am rating 5-stars. • Perfect for tight spaces
This style box is the best for tight spaces. I needed to install it where there was another stud making it difficult to hammer in a standard new work box. They are a premium price over a standard box, but mount very solidly and in my opinion are worth the extra cost

  • Contains outlet and wiring as expected.
Used this to install a charging outlet in the garage rafters for my old Leaf. It holds the outlet and wiring with aplomb. No issues.

  • Excellent as an old work box, also great as a new work box
These are great for old work. Much much better than the ones with the screw tabs. They just need to located by a stud. Very sturdy and don't depend on the drywall for structural sturdiness. Two cons, 1) they are pricey, and 2) the shape sometimes gets in the way of the wire while inserting into the wall. ... show more
