    • My new go-to over the orange ones
These brackets work exactly like they should. Cut the rectangular hole, turn the 2 screws to pull the wings taught on the backside of the wall, and you're ready to install your wall plate of choice. I've always used the orange ones from my local big box store, but these are just as nice and available for under $2 each in bulk. I've already largely wired my house with everything I could need so most of these will be for any additions I may do down the road, or perhaps at a friend or family member's house. ... show more

This is an overall great low voltage bracket that seems sturdy enough for most applications. The screw to tighten the “wing” is a coarse threaded machine screw, so it tightens much more quickly than the typical fine threaded versions. While the product is great, it’s difficult to determine from the pictures that there’s a “bulge” in the back that needs to be accounted for when cutting dry wall. You cannot simply cut a hole that fits the flange as there’s this bulge for the wing screw (see attached picture). It’s not a big deal as long as you account for it, but it’s not as easy as it can be and certainly difficult to see in the amazon listing. ... show more

    • Sturdy, flexible, easy to use
These low voltage wall boxes (frames, really) do the job. Very simple, straightforward. The plastic is very flexible, so they’ll adapt to the surface they are on within reason and can take a lot of abuse before breaking. The box requires a hole at least 3 9/16” x 2 1/8” (91mm x 54mm) and up to 3 7/8” x 2 5/16. The top and bottom tabs are longer than the sides so the larger measurement is more important - if the sides are a little too wide it’ll probably still work as long as the larger tabs still have enough wallboard. The tabs that hold it in place use plastic threaded screws so they screw in very quickly and hold well, unlike some cheaper options that use fine threaded screws. ... show more
