Description

View largerWHAT IS A CAPACITOR?A capacitor is a passive (a component that consumes but does not produce energy) two terminal electrical component. In building a sound system for your car, you would want to use a capacitor for a couple of different reasons.WHY DO I NEED ONE?The main reason a capacitor is always recommend, is for power reserve. The capacitor stores energy and releases it very quickly to the amplifier(s). How does this help? It’s very simple: Music is dynamic, no matter what type you listen to. The dynamics in musical content can vary from soft voices, and very quickly transition to thundering bass notes. These moments are where the benefit of having a capacitor is heard. The amplifier requires a constant amount of steady power to function efficiently and power the speakers. A capacitor will keep the power going to the amplifier consistent and stabilized, which means a better sounding system. IMPORTANT: The remote output of the head unit is connected to the remote turn on of the capacitor. The capacitor will not function if the remote wire is not connected to your head unit.SPECIFICATIONS1) 3 Digit, Super Bright Red LED Voltage Meter 2) Capacitance (microfarads): 3,500,000 3) Working voltage: 20VDC 4) Surge Voltage: 24 Volt 5) ESR : ˂0.00195 Ohm @ 120Hz, 25ºC 6) Capacitance tolerance: +/- 10% 7) Chrome Plated Posts 8) Dimensions: H 11-3/8” x D 3-15/16” Charging The Capacitor View largerCHARGING THE CAPACITORFirst make sure that all the connections according to the diagrams in the instruction manual are correct. Pick up the cable coming from the POSITIVE (+) battery terminal. Place the supplied charging resistor between the end of this cable and the positive terminal of the capacitor. The capacitor will begin charging. Charging generally takes 5 to 60 seconds. During charging, the voltage shown in the 3 digit display will rise rapidly, then slow as it approaches the voltage of your vehicle’s battery. When fully charged, the display voltage will stop rising. If you have a voltmeter, you can first measure the voltage of your car battery. Then you will know with accuracy that the capacitor is fully charged. CAUTION!! During charging, the resistor will become hot. This is normal, but exercise caution during the charging process. After charging is complete, remove the resistor from the incoming positive cable, and IMEDIATELY connect it to the positive terminal of the capacitor.View largerWiring View largerView largerView larger

  • Great product - high quality - great price
Style: 3.5 Farad
What a difference in maintaining a constant voltage level with no more draw and dimming lights. My audio quality is 10x better with a deeper base from my SUB. Working flawless since install with NO ISSUES! Worked better than what a lot of the reviews stated. DEFINITELY A BUY!!!

  • Certainly worth the value

This capacitor certainly does the job and takes alot of stress off the battery and alternator likes it's supposed. I did have an issue with the first one they sent me, it turned out to be defective after only using it for about a month, but the vendor was easy to work with and sent me a new one along with paid postage to ship the defective one back. Overall, it wasa great product and a great experience. ... show more

  • Works for Amateur Radio also
Style: 2 Farad
I have a Ford F-150 with the 3.5l Ecoboost engine. This vehicle has the automatic stop/start "feature" that shuts the engine down at stops and restarts it when the foot is removed from the brake or if the battery needs charging or the AC needs to run for cooling or other reasons. It is supposed to save gasoline. It may do that, but it has some unfortunate side-effects. One of those is that my Icom IC-7100 can't take the voltage sag that happens when the engine starts. It will reboot. Ford did something with the built-in system so that continues to operate, so I knew a solution had to be available. This was the solution. I paired it with a Bridge Rectifier diode to ensure that the capacitor would be charged but not feed the power back to the battery when the engine starts. It provides the voltage stability that my radio needs. Now I don't have to remember to shut the auto stop/start off as the radio will happily continue to operate through those cycles. The capacitor will operate without the display. I did however connect a wire to the radio through the auxiliary connector's pin that has voltage when the radio is turned on. I use the same connection to power another device that is only active when the radio is turned on. The 2 Farad capacitor is likely way more than what was needed. However, it was available at a good price, being only a couple more dollars than the 1 Farad capacitor. It is rather large, but I have it located under the rear seat in the F-150 and it fits well there along with the other radio equipment. Bottom line is that I can recommend this for solving the radio reboot problem for those who have the same problem. ... show more

  • Awesome Capacitor
Style: 3.5 Farad
The media could not be loaded. Don't listen to any of these reviewers stating that it's not a super/ultra-cap (which the product states its just a capacitor, nothing more) or the ones stating it doesn't last long and such. Chances are they either misused it or installed it improperly. I've had two of these 3.5uf capacitors providing supplementary power to two 1600watt amps, that's one cap per amp, I've had no issues. Fully charged they each hold about 14.7v, during standard music playing like using the radio tell drop to about 11.5v-12.5v, during heavy usage like playing heavy bass music it has only gone as low as 9.5v-10.5v. When my car is off, I can do heavy usage for about 45min to an hour and 1.5 - 2 hours of standard play. As soon as the car comes on, the recharge is instant. both caps have a low voltage tone which comes on when the voltage drops below 9v which I've tested by running both amps off of one cap. All in all, these caps are great for beginners or just those who don't have big systems. Of course, if you plan on going big, then I would recommend getting a super/ultra cap which usually looks like standard car batteries. But if you have limited space or you don't have the need for such high-end applications, these caps are the way to go. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for.
Style: 2 Farad
The packaging is a horrendous nightmare designed to discourage returns. Typo instruction book pic with reversed polarity. LED and digits way too bright. Supplied charging 51 ohm resistor is too high value. Used 8 ohm 20 watt resistor and it charged correctly. Otherwise ok. Voltmeter is accurate and useful. It was holding 11 volts when I unpacked it so its probably a capacitor. If youre a ham or electronics tech this is acceptable. If not, spend more and get a more coherent manual and parts kit. 3 stars cuz it was inexpensive. ... show more

  • Buy ten of these.
Style: 3.5 Farad
This capacitor works as I expected. I'm not about to even consider seeing my lights flickering, even without a capacitor. I bought a second one of these caps because I'm about to add a third SSL 4000 Watt Class D Monoblock amp, and already have a 1600 watt Class A/B 4 Channel for my Infinity's. This cap simply bumps the amperage when the song bumps...sending the signal to the amp and then draining your amp draw...so it only makes sense to give the system some oomph when it's needed to make up for the system surges at heavy hitting amperage. I also have 2- 900CCA Deep Cycle batteries in addition to the truck's main battery which is rated at 150 amps over the factory specs and an upgraded alternator...from 95 amps total output, to 135 amps output. My truck thumps like nobody's business and I never see a flicker...even with A/C and headlights on. ... show more
