Although I prefer salt water fishing in Mexico, life planted me in southwestern Oregon, so I'm a trout fisherman who occasionally gets to fish in Mexico. That being said, I do indulge in a BUNCH of trout fishing. I enjoy using light/ultralight rods coupled with size 1000 spinning reels and 6# (or less) line. This kind of a set up allows even small trout a chance to fight and yet large trout can be landed by anyone with a modicum of skill. I ordered this Sougayilang Chikani FS rod to add to a reel I previously owned. I own several items of Sougayilang pedigree and, with a few exceptions, it's good “everyman” gear at a very reasonable price point. This rod bears that out in the following ways. The rod comes equipped with full cork grips where normally you would expect EVA foam at this price point ($26). The rod seat has metal overlays (see pics) for strength. Typically, rods at this level would have 100% plastic reel seats or reel seats built into the grips (again....plastic). The guides are not high end but it's worth noting that the guide wrap trim is gold thread, not gold paint (see pic). A small thing, but another Sougayilang plus. The ferrule connection is smooth and secure but not stupidly hard to break down when you want to take the rod apart. The rod is marked as “moderate-fast action” and “medium light” power. I mounted my 1000 reel on the Chikani, threaded the line, and pulled for the camera. As you can see, the bend profile fits the description printed on the rod. Pulling extra hard produced an even bend but also accentuated one of my complaints about the rod. For a 5'+ rod I would have expected five guides and the tip-top. If you look closely at the line in the photo where I'm pulling hard, you can see the sharp angles as the line spans a long length of rod to the next guide. Just one more guide would have spread that load out in a better curve. No a deal breaker buuuuut... Another small item is the lack of a hook keeper. Luckily, I wrap my own rods now and then so I will add one on my own. Overall, I must say that this is a really good rod at a better than appropriate price point. The small complaints prevent it from being a five star product, but it might just be the rod for you! ... show more

This is a good looking fast action medium heavy power rod. It handles from 10 to 20 lb. line and up to a 11/2oz. lure. I has a cool black and silver design on the lower piece of the rod and a nice cork handle. The upper rod section is black. The eyes seem durable so far and have had no issues to date. I have used this rod a few times in the Gulf surf tossing all sizes of lures with no problems. It casts 20 lb. braid very far and smoothly and is light and comfortable to use. The 7.5 ft. length is a very versatile size for all sorts of situations. I have even caught some fresh water pond bass during its trial period. It has a nice feel and will be my go to lure chucker for now. This rod is a great bargain at this price and I highly recommend! ... show more

This is a great rod and easy to carry with me in the truck. I live in Fl and you never know when you are going to have time or find a great place to fish. My job has me traveling around S. Central FL so there are a lot of places to fish. I don’t always have the time to stop, however to have this nice rod with me that breaks down, reel attached. Awesome rod! It has a cool wrap 1/3 the way up thats not too over the top! The eyelet are secured beautifully with the inner eyelet plastic rings just like all the premium rods on the market. Not too flexible, but definetely not stiff its a nice medium. I wish I would have picked up the 6 footer instead of the 7' but I still really like it, and for the price it's a steal! ... show more

The fishing pole is nice! The cork handle is clean and smooth. Line guides are all straight. It has good fit and nice finish. The length is right on, as stated. No problem securely attaching a Shimano TX 1000 series real. I'm ready to go fishing. Bring on the season. 5 stars.
