  • Great build, doesn't take away from the 20mm's low light capability...
Fit/finish and ergonomics - definitely 5 stars. Construction quality is stellar. Metal barrel with built in plastic hood. Usually I hate built in hoods but this one is very unobtrusive. Very easy to install onto lens. Simple quarter anti clock wise turn (with camera facing away from you) and simple detach by depressing detach button then twist clockwise quarter turn. My only other wide angle lens used on the A7/A7S and now A7ii is the Voigtlander 15mm ii. I think the sony's 28mm with 20mm adapter is better built but is much larger. Plus, the lens on the sony is much larger and probably easier to damage without the cap on which is a problem for me since I often leave the cap in my pocket. About the built in hood, the Voigtlander has a very annoying one. It's hood is small but protrudes annoyingly making it much larger than the actual lens' size. Distortion and sharpness - probably a 4 star for now. only taken a few pics so far, and find distortion is present just like it is sans the wide angle adapter but is actually less noticeable. The 28mm's distortion is an easy fix with adobe raw lens profile. However, the lens + converter profile doesn't seem to be very accurate. Picture is a tad less sharp with the adapter. However, the adapter doesn't appear to make block any light going through the lens which I initially didn't think was possible. Specs says f2.8 but I can't see too much difference light blockage wise with the converter installed. Overall, currently very happy with it. Although I wish I had a more compact wide angle lens, the adapter is really easy to remove and is small enough to put into my pocket when I am not using it. Combined with the 28mm, the lens with adapter is a very good value compared to what I've been using which are the 35mm 1.2 and 15mm ii lenses which combined is about $900 more than the Sony combo. For those who are manually adjusting for distortion on photoshop, please post what settings you are using. I am using +1. Nov 11 update: Sharpness and focus on A7ii is decent but definitely have to manual focus if you're a pixel peeper. Happy with the f2.8 combined with 5-axis on the A7ii to take night shots hand held. ... show more

  • too large, too expensive, 2.8 not enough on an a6500
Good idea. comically large attached to the 28mm F2. Don't buy the 28mm for landscapes, I don't know what those focal lengths are for on a full frame. On an apsc the 28mm is an ideal walkaround lens for day time. This 21mm will make the camera/lens combination so front heavy you won't want to use it for walkarounds - this will give you a 60 degrees of fov on an a6500 (crop factor is 1.537) so it is narrower than what is posted on specs. so it'd have the fov of a 33mm lens on a FF (not a 30mm) - the 28mm fov is 48 so it is the fov of a 46mm in a FF (a rather unheard of focal length) so not your usual fields of view... and besides 2.8 is too little of an aperture in apsc, because the sensor is not BSI and also the pixels are 2.362 smaller that in a FF camera (24 mp) So: - not easy to use (to carry) as it is comically large - no front filters that i know of (the front elemnt is curve) - expensive.. it should be sold for 120 USD not 250 usd. - you loose 1 ev from the f2 28mm which limits you even further on an apsc. - the 28mm is not suited for wide angle everything on focus - not your usual fields of view but they are still enjoyable. veridict: Returned to Amazon for a full refund! advice: mmmhmh... it'd make sense on the crop factor camera had it not been for the fact that is so large, for the FF cameras buy the loxia or buy manual rokinon (FF not the apsc version) or similar. ... show more

  • Great image quality, but custom lens cap can be annoying
Optically this adapter is great, and I haven't noticed any photo quality loss compared to the 28mm. I've left it permanently attached to my 28mm as my dedicated landscape lens with the a7II. Only downside is the front lens cap clamps that hold the cap in place seem to be a little too easy to pry off, and when that happens the clamp springs will shoot out never to be found again. I had this happen while hiking when I was putting my backpack down and the shoulder strap caught on one side of the lens cap clamp and pulled it out. The clamp itself is fine and just snapped back in, but the spring is gone forever. Now my lens cap has trouble staying on since one side has no spring, and I have to pay $20 for a replacement cap since it's a custom shape. ... show more

  • I am impressed!
I am impressed with how sharp my photos are with this attachment. It is a handy tool to have in my camera case. I had been looking at purchasing a whole new lens, but for this lrive point, I figured I would give it a shot. It did not disappoint. The only thing I don't like is how it attaches to the lens. The release is too easy to bump by mistake - but it isn't a deal breaker. Surprising thumbs up from me! ... show more

  • A whole new view for less than the price of a brand new lens (but no filters!)
This adapter does exactly it sets out to do and it does it well. PROS: it makes the standard lens wide-angle. Good build quality, it feels really satisfying to click it into place. The built-in petal hood is also really snazzy. CONS: The big one is the lack of filter threads, because there's nothing to prevent the lens from getting scratched. The picture is also a tad darker than without the adapter, but really that's to be expected when light has to travel further and through more glass. I could knock off a star for the lack of filter threads, but I feel like that would be kind of petty considering the quality of the product. ... show more

  • Great Lens converter, but possibly received a used lens.
I have this 3 stars, and it's not so much Sony's fault. I'm more upset that I bought a lens as new, and I feel it came used. But if this wasn't the case, the converter is amazing. 21mm 2.8 for so cheap, AF works fast, and it's as sharp as the 28. The 28mm already suffered from distortion, if it didn't it would've been top tier on DXOmark no doubt. So I wasn't expecting much less from converting that to 21mm. But this all doesn't matter because it can easily be fixed in the lens profile in Lightroom post processing. ... show more

  • Good picture quality at trade off of weight and Aperture
Solid glass, doesn’t compromise on picture quality, but is heavy and it will cause your Aperture to stop down to f4.
