All zones work. Easy to install, good quality. No problem with the remote that works with my American zone only blue ray player. Reasonable price and very good in terms of image and sound. Based on the reviews, I was expecting a worse experience, but I am so glad I did not listened to the reviewers.

I love films from all over the world (ask my film students the whole world gets taught plus I my personal collection includes VCD music videos or PAL formatted movies from France, China and Israel), from different "video regions" and yet as an artist I also believe video piracy is a crime (when I was in China back in 2006 Mission Impossible III came out and when I went to the theater to watch it you could already buy the DVD of it right outside of the theater for the price of admission). I specifically searched for a non-record all-region player as I didn't want to support a machine made to pirate other people's hard work. I found the manual and the remote easy to use together (much easier than a smart television I have it hooked up to, the smart tv makes me look dumb). The diagram of the remote along with simple to understand instructions work really well together. It is easy to flip between all-region to a specific region setting for a disc that is set for PAL televisions. I don't know if it is just Region 3 where the picture quality doesn't look great, not horrible, but not as rich as I like. The remote is fine to use once you start using it with the manual, but it is definitely one you need the manual for as it is a little different from my other Sony remotes (I try to keep all the remotes the same company so if batteries run down I can temporarily use a different remote). Like I said I would give this player and remote a 4.5 out of 5 stars if possible. ... show more

    • I JUST REALIZED WHAT HAS BEEN SID BY OTHER CUSTOMER - BAD, BAD EXPERIENCE
I had the same situation of another customer here in these reviews. I bought this item since it is described as Multi System Region Free Blue-Ray able to play on 110-240 v. but the AC Adaptor that comes with the item it reports that is functioning on 110 v. only. I thought that it has been modified by seller as well. The player did really work for about 4 times (these are the times I used it in 5 months) and last night, when I started it again, was DEAD. I think this is a major problem since I bought it for my assignment out of the U.S. and I thought I bought a SONY RF1500RF...it is a SONY S1500 MODIFIED instead. I already brought this issue to amazon's attention. I discourage anybody to purchase this item if they want to use it in another country. The unit had an after-market "modification" with a 90 day warranty and a plug in adaptor that was clearly ONLY playable in a 110v environment. Included was a photocopied one page sheet of instructions. Given that a BDP-S1500 is normally about $85, the company distributing this thing is charging an additional $75 to unlock it. They should be advertising a "modified" BDP-S1500, NOT a S1500RF. I was planning on bringing the unit with me to Europe, but given the limitations of the plug-in adaptor, I cannot.     • Multi-region abilities need more intuitive design.
Revised review: works okay, but you have to know the trick to get it to play discs different than region A/1. It does not automatically switch regions based on the disc you throw in, and it doesn't help there are no instructions provided with the unit itself (probably online). In order to switch regions/zones, with the unit powered on, open the disc tray, then press one of the "color" buttons on the remote, close the tray to complete the switch.
