  • Once you go Bravia, you'll never go back to other brands!
Size: 65 Style: TV Only
I was born in 1978. My parents opened up a VHS/Betamax rental store in 1983. Even though I was a child I could see right away that Sony's player and the quality of the tapes image was superior to VHS. This made a big impression on me because people still chose VHS over Betamax. Inconceivable! It's funny the things that grab your attention as a child. When I saw one of my sister's friends using a Walkman I knew I had to have one! My parents granted my wish for my birthday that year...finally I had my first Sony anything to call my own. Since that time, I've stayed informed on anything new from Sony. I've owned ALL their home consoles including the portables, DVD players, TVs, and anytime they release a new version of their noise cancelling headphones I must have them. I've owned televisions from other manufacturers over the years, and while a few brands compete aggressively on specifications, Sony has always impressed me with a picture quality that simply looks natural. Setup is straightforward thanks to Google TV. The interface feels polished, responsive, and intuitive. Menus load quickly, apps launch without hesitation, and everything is refined rather than cluttered. As expected, the picture quality is exceptional. Colors look rich without appearing artificially boosted. Skin tones look realistic, landscapes have tremendous depth, and even older streaming content benefits from upscaling. I tested the television with everything from YouTube videos and Netflix streaming to sports broadcasts, movies, and games via console and PC. The set handled all of it beautifully. Fast-moving scenes remained smooth and clear, making it particularly enjoyable for sports and action films. Many televisions struggle when the camera rapidly pans across a field or stadium, but this beast maintained excellent detail and motion clarity. As I mentioned earlier, I've owned every console Sony has ever produced. I was blown away by how much better the PS5 graphics looked on this TV! Seriously, it is shocking! Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode weren't things I was familiar with prior to receiving the TV, but boy do they work! If you would describe yourself as a gamer, I'd seriously take a look at the Bravia line. Brightness was another pleasant surprise. My living room receives a fair amount of natural light during the day, and the screen remained vibrant and easy to watch without needing to close every curtain in the house. HDR content is especially impressive, adding extra depth and realism to movies and nature documentaries. Gemini integration wasn't something I was even remotely familiar with, but after doing some research I was open to giving it a try. I cannot begin to tell you how this one feature has changed how I enjoy my TV time. Typing out a movie or TV title can be a frustrating experience at a time when you just want to relax. Now with the press of a button, I can simply ask for anything I want to view, search I want to make online, or app I want to summon and Gemini makes it so! This is a feature I will demand from future sets. Out-of-the-box, the sound quality is better than I expected, however I have an excellent sound system I connected it to right away because I insist on surround sound for an immersive experience. Physically, the television is very easy on the eyes. The bezels are barely noticeable, the design is clean and modern, and it has the premium appearance you'd expect this brand. For my budget, this is an outstanding value! ... show more

  • Software Issues
Size: 43 Style: TV Only
Had to issue a return. Could not cast from Android or stream paid videos due to firmware and possible DRM errors. Spent 5 hours troubleshooting myself and another 2 hours on the phone with a Sony tech who couldn't figure it out. Factory reset did not fix. They started blaming my home network when I have 5+ other devices that can cast and stream with no issues. Same errors occurred when I connected it to a hotspot. Not worth the hassle. If it's not plug and play, it's not for me. ... show more

  • Outstanding picture and sound. Light in weight. Heavy on features. Outstanding picture and sound. Light in weight. Heavy on features.
Size: 55 Style: TV Only
Sony always has the best picture and system, and this model is no exception. It's a TV that is light in weight and solidly made. The 55 inch size is pretty standard for a large TV these days, as everything has gotten larger. Years ago it was huge, but not so much now. Getting it out of the box and onto the legs was fairly easy for one person to do thanks to the light weight, but two people might be safer in handling. I can't say the rest of it is easy, however. The remote was extremely hard to open to insert the batteries (provided). Why does it need to be so hard? And then there are the endless setup screens to get your services and apps ready for use. It took about 1/2 hour of passwords and remote surfing to get everything going, but that is typical. The light weight of the TV is good when it comes to moving it around the house or up the stairs. Operation is easy once you get used to how it works. It seems to be somewhat random in how the controls work. Sometimes when I press the "Home" button, it goes to the "Settings" page. Why? Otherwise it does what it's supposed to do the rest of the time. It also has some other quirks that are just slightly annoying. Changing the picture settings, for example, is an exercise in resetting what you want over and over again. It didn't keep the settings at all at first. I'd set it up, and then exit the Settings page, only to lose all the settings when switching back. But putting those quirks aside, the picture and sound are excellent. The video settings as shipped are a little non-lifelike. Color is too high, contrast and brightness are too high, and noise reduction is way high, making everything look flat like a cartoon. This is like they look in the store to impress you and get your attention, but hardly true to life or what you want to see daily. Taming those down, the picture is excellent. Sony knows how to make electronic products and this model is no exception to that rule. The picture has a certain "something" to it that is better to my eye than other brands. It must be in the electronics and not in the actual physical screen itself. Overall this model is an excellent value with its great picture, sound, and flexibility in settings. You can't go wrong with this model. Pictures with my camera can't do it justice, so you'll have to see it for yourself. ... show more

  • Amazing TV with some caveats
Size: 65 Style: TV Only
Wow! My former ancient TV was ancient (and years ago my old TV manufacturer and Netflix parted ways, so without yet another TV box on the dresser I suddenly couldn’t watch my favorite movies.) The difference between that TV and this one is Stunning.. I'm used to seeing all the big TVs in the electronics departments in various stores, but it's a totally different experience to have this at home. Sony is definitely not lying when they say the colors are true to life and the picture is bright and sharp. I can see every little detail on what I'm watching, and watching Nature documentaries is like being there! Amazing. Installation was daunting though. It took me 3 hours for setup- it kept lying to me. "one more step you're ready to go'', which frequently meant another hour, my phone and my laptop just to get it working. Whatever happened to gear you just buy, plug in and go? like a walkman? Fye on you Sony! This tv constantly asked me for all of my google and email passwords (where does this info even go?) and WAY too much other personal information. And it even asked me precisely where I live and if I was married or single so it could select targeted ads for me. UGH. I have never bought anything from an ad, and do not like that part at all. Its just a TV darn it!! It feels like an internet enabled refrigerator that locks its door until you tell it who you are and what you weigh! The remote is fairly simple to use once you figure out what everything does. What seems weird turns out to make entering stuff easier once I figured that out. i could use my phone instead but no thanks. Just another nosey App! The sound is awesome, but not quite as good as my home stereo system. I haven't even turned it up all the way (max 30 and the bass is thumping). I feel like I'm in a theater but at home! I never use it above 10. I’m kinda sad that it only has digital sound outputs rather than RCA jacks because I want to hook the sound into my home speakers, sh now I do have to buy another adapter Over all, this is an amazing TV. the picture is everything you would expect from Sony. The price point is super reasonable considering the quality you receive. Even for the hassles I am very impressed, so I give this one 5 stars, highly recommended. . ... show more
