  • Cheap and works well
Size: 1 Pack
Standard for all my reviews: When reviewing products, I always remain objective and honest about the product or service. I always review with information that I feel others would like to know about the product as I always assume what I'm writing will influence for or against the purchase. I always try to go above and beyond surface characteristics and input into quality, value and application. Most importantly, I will always end the review with an answer as to whether I'd purchase the product again which I believe is the most critical question pertaining to the item. To manufacturers: Want me to review your items, just let me know! I purchased this along with fertilizer as my small garden was struggling this year and I was trying to track down the problem. As it turns out, I think I had both a watering and fertilizing problem. As for this moisture/light meter, it's super simple to use and appears to be extremely accurate. Light isn't an issue but I've 'played' around with it and it registers accurately. The moisture meter part gives you readings from dry to wet and there's no mistaking its reading. At one point it was registering "wet" when the top of the soil was bone dry. Digging down a bit I found the peat moss I had was retaining moisture and the meter was reporting properly - a huge help as I believe I was drowning the roots. You can't change the batter on this unit but for the price, it's something you just replace. The only downside is that the probes aren't particular heavy weight so if you have impacted soil, it's possible to bend them a bit but it's not much of an issue. You can bend them back. But as long as you go straight into the soil and don't probe too deeply, it's not an issue. I won't garden from this point forward without a meter like this and while I haven't tried others, I'll get this one again due to cost. ... show more

  • Works well.
Size: 1 Pack
This fits my needs well. Although I can't guarantee the accuracy of its readings it definitely tells me when the my plants need water. I also used it to test the Ph and it does give a reading that I will act on. The posts of the device seem a bit weak so I am careful when I stick into the soil but I haven't had any problems. It's light and easy to carry. The meter is a bit small and you have to make sure you are reading the correct dial. For the price I think this is a great product and I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Easy to use
Size: 1 Pack
I bought this tester to test the pH of my garden soil. Every Summer in Missouri, our garden produces a bountiful crop of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, and more. Last year we rebuilt our raised beds in a different spot in the yard with more sunshine. Fresh soil, new location, we had a bumper crop. This year, 2022, we added some additional soil and got the plants in early. The garden has performed poorly this year -- one of our worst years ever. We have tried everything we can think of to fix the problem. I bought this meter to test the pH of the soil. I have no way of knowing whether it's accurate, because I've got nothing to compare it to. I have to assume that it is. Although the meter also shows that the soil is "wet" when it appears to me that the garden needs water. But the meter is difficult to read. It's far too small for old eyes to see easily. I took off 1 star because it's hard to read. For me, my soil is just less than a pH of 7. Slightly acidic, just like tomatoes like. This meter didn't solve my problem, but it gave me more information than I had before I used it. ... show more

  • Great Item
Size: 1 Pack
For someone who was born without a green thumb (all I’ve ever been able to grow was children), this is invaluable to me. Along with a couple of apps and some grow lights, I’ve kept my plants alive longer than I’ve ever been able to before. The light sensor on the front isn’t as helpful, because if my grow lights aren’t hitting it in the right spot, it looks like my plants aren’t getting enough light, but at least I know my grow lights are strong enough. If you only water your plants a little every couple of days, as opposed to a good soaking once a week, remember to “water” the meter too, so you get accurate moisture results. ... show more

  • It stopped working!
Size: 1 Pack
Worked well initially. After only a few months, it just stopped working. The switch will only go into the Ph & the light position - won't even slide over to the moisture meter, which is the most important thing for me. Also the light meter is off - I tested it in my garden which is in full sun (in SE TX) on a sunny day & it registered right in the middle. Wiped it off, took it inside & tested on a potted plant where there is very little light and it registered right in the middle. I had really high hopes based on the reviews but I've basically just buried my money in garden on this one. ... show more

  • How to fix your meter before you think it's junk and send it back
Size: 1 Pack
I just received this meter, and like so many other reviewers I thought it was a piece of junk due to the ph registering 70 on every soil test I made. Even read this when I mixed 30% acetic acid (vinegar) with the soil. Read 70 when i tested peat moss mixed with a lot of moisture. Then I read a couple of reviewers who said you needed to rub the points and sensors hard with an abrasive. One person said that the only thing that worked for him was using a wire brush. Well....that is exactly what worked for me!! I cleaned the probes and then scrubbed with a wire brush for about a minute and --VOILA: as soon as I then took the meter and tested the acidic solutions that had registered zero they jumped to acidic. The peat moss was 4.5, which is normal, and the vinegar mud was the lowest it could register. My container plants with roses, which need a pH of 6-6.5, are now registering 6.5-7 and I will only need to amend the soil slightly on some. Thanks so much to reviewers who have taken the time to give these quick fix instructions. I am happy with this product now. I just think the manufacturer needs to amend their instructions. ... show more
