The Mesa XL is great. It gives you a table top 'Fire Pit' that will throw quite a bit of warmth out as well as flames. For a casual backyard experience, you don't need a bigger unit. If you use wood, you have to be sure to chop it up into little pieces to fit all the way inside the Solo Stove and avoid wood that has a high pitch content to control sparks. The flames shoot quite high and straight up. You do have to have reserve wood waiting to be added as wood tends to burn down a bit quickly. If you use wood stove pellets, just fill it up until the pellets almost reach the top inside vents and lay a fire starter briquette on top. Either wood or pellets, it lights off easily. It's perfect for a patio. The bottom gets hot, but not hot enough to cause a problem for anything you set it on, which stays cool to the touch. It’s been nice. Used wood pellets and fire last about 40 mins but still has very hot heat for another 30 mins to keep roasting marshmallows. Bottom does not get very hot so can use in table without any worries about burning surface. Have had over 15 times of use easy to clean not much ash left and had used the t for 3hrs one time bye just keep adding pellets every 20 mins and flame stayed a bout 6inchs above top ... show more

the solo stove mesa arrived and we opened it and put it to immediate use. burned a four to five hour fire on the deck, turned on the music and had a blast. the next morning there was about a handful of ash in the bottom, which was dumped out making no mess. we burned hardwood pieces about 4 inches long instead of pellets. with the woods behind the house we can use loppers on small limbs to quickly cut about a half of a five gallon bucket of small stuff, and we are set for the night. highly recommend this product. ... show more

I bought this for our son and daughter inlaw to use on their patio. Looking at the pictures it looks like it should be a foot or so in diameter and maybe 15 inches tall. It says you can use the wood pellets or real wood and it shows a couple small logs sitting by the fire pit. However, once we received it we were shocked at the actual size - 5" diameter and 7" tall! On the product package it says it will burn pellets or TWIGS, not the chunks shown on the advertising. Overall, the quality is good and our kids are happy with it but I definitely expected something bigger... ... show more

The product itself is great. Just as described. I had ordered 2 Mesas. I received 1 in a very small box just big enough to fit the actual product box. I tried contacting the company thru Amazon. It took at least 5 days for their response. In the meantime, I contacted the company. After waiting more than 24 hours for a call back I finally got the company to call me back. They said it was clearly not mailed in a box big enough for two and resolved the issue by sending out the second Mesa. The Amazon response came well after I had resolved the issue myself.
