  • Bottom track jams
Good concept, love the side-opening style, but design of the bottom track is poor. The slightest piece of straw or other bedding in the narrow track will cause the door to jam. This happened repeatedly. Had to return it because I need something care free and reliable since I am often away from the coop for days. ... show more

  • Great
[Update 3/7/2023: My son and daughter-in-law put this in their coop and were initially thrilled with it. But in less than a week the chickens have dropped so much feed and dirt in the track the door rides in that the motor that moves the door can no longer overcome the friction to open or close the door. And the track is difficult to clean. My son is going to try installing this so that the door rises vertically rather than opening horizontally to see if it will work that way. If it does, I will come back and update. But as of now it's hard to recommend this door with this huge limitation. Thus I've reduced the stars from 5 to 3. This is unfortunate because in every other way this thing is a winner.] I got this for my son and daughter-in-law who are putting in a chicken coop for the kids (and partially because of the recent jump in egg prices). They've now installed it and their report is.... 1) This is great. It works well, reliably, and they love the timer and light sensor open and close options. 2) It took them just five minutes to install. ... show more

  • Lasted just long enough to make it past Amazon's return window
This door worked alright, not great, but alright, for about a month. It is not a great design, as others have said, everything gets stuck in the bottom track; dirt, pine shaving, hemp bedding and lets not forget chicken poop. If you don't make sure that the track is cleared before it closes, we'll it just doesn't close. Because of the pinch protection, any little obstacle in the bottom track causes the door to go through an endless cycle of open to close, over and over until the batteries die. Major design flaw, but unfortunately there are not a lot of side open doors. This meant going out to make sure the track was clear before the set time to close happened, basically defeats the purpose of an automatic door. Now, for what ever reason, the door doesn't open all the way, and no longer does the 30 second reset time for its "Abnormal Open/Close" feature. This thing has gone through at least 20 AA batteries in the month or so it has been on my coop. TLDR; Don't waste your money on this. Poorly designed and creates more work which negates the "Automatic" function of the door. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY!
I had high hopes on this door as it appeared to fit my need. I installed on my new coop and it worked great in a garage setting. When I finally finished the coop and moved it outside and let the chickens in that is when this become a piece of junk. ANY amount of sand granules or bedding material to fall in the track (which is inevitable) will activate the door bounce back safety feature. So every night I am out there scraping sand out of the track and forcing the door closed, kind of the opposite thinking I had when I purchased an automatic door opener. Also have already burned through 8 AA batteries in 2 weeks! I would leave 0 stars if possible, I highly recommend not buying as you will have the same problems! ... show more

  • Not reliable
The media could not be loaded. I had such high hopes for this coop door as it fit my opening perfect, was so cool to see it open and close on its own. But after 2 days, the door could no longer open on it own. It would almost open all the way and then close shut for 30 seconds and attempt again. I wasn’t home until the afternoon, that when I could hear it opening and closing. Luckily, I only have chicks so they’re in the house still. I couldn’t imagine them to be trapped in the coop all day. I see two other options for sideways opening doors, fingers crossed. ... show more

  • Avoid!
Terrible design! I have to go out every night before the door closes and dig all of the dirt and crud out of the track or it won’t close! Any piece of straw or bedding will keep it from closing. Returning!
