I can’t believe nobody else makes something like this with the prevalence of “split” ACs. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing special about this product. It’s two pieces of aluminum frame plexiglass that slide with each other. But they include niceties like two rolls of foam to help seal, and a “lock” to help keep your sliding window secured in a halfway open position. Fits a Midea u shaped 12k BTU unit perfectly. Yes you could build this yourself. But with the price of plexiglass and wood required you’d have to literally value your time at $9/hr or less. ... show more

Aesthetically pleasing, decent build quality, quite expensive but nothing like it on the market. Unfortunately, my doors and windows are black so the silver aluminum frame is not ideal, but it’s such a thin frame it’s not as noticeable as I thought it would be. Installing is quick and easy, after you get the awful plexiglass film peeled off. It is a HUGE improvement over the plastic filler I was using, for sound pollution and air tightness. I used this with my off-brand Cowsar window AC unit and it took a little finagling, but after a few minutes I came up with a solution and I’m happy with this window insert. ... show more

Ok. This item came nicely boxed to protect it from bending or being damaged in transit. So people complain about the high price, but look what you get in return. Try making an actual window insert yourself that doesn't look ugly and that still emits some natural light above the air conditioner. This window insert is very well made with substantial plexiglass window panes and a clean, well-milled aluminum frame that looks just like a window. I retrofitted mine to a GE air conditioner whose width was just under the width of this frame and I installed in a left/right slider window. That's key cause you don't want to have to add left/right side fillers beyond maybe a 1/2-inch because then you sacrifice home security. If you live in a more public setting, a first floor, or have no other locking mechanisms on windows, this might not be a solution for you. While it looks fantastic, it wouldn't offer iron-clad window security. I love mine. It should last for years. ... show more

Acrylic feels like flimsy plastic, and it makes a wobbling noise within the aluminum frame. The stopper they provided doesn't even fit the ledge of my window, so I had to resort to a DIY version. For the exorbitant price tag, the build quality is pretty mediocre. This does not work for all horizontal sliding windows. It doesn't even have dedicated side grooves to lock firmly across your window hinges. You just "wedge" it by squeezing it along the edge and hope it doesn't slide down. That's why they provide rubbery strips. At most, this functions more as a temporary solution than a permanent one. You're better off just customizing a much sturdier panel yourself. ... show more

    • Panel fits 48” tall windows but too short for 52” windows.
I’ll give it five stars but if you had extensions for taller windows like mine(52”), I’d give you 10 stars( or review it twice). Selling 3” extruded strips that fit on top and/or bottom of window would make this a real winner winner.

The installation is tricky, our son helped with it and is a little concerned that there are no brackets holding the window in place. Just foam and pressure from the sliding window. It is sturdy and looks very nice. It might look like a strong wind would push it over, but you cannot push it anywhere. Since this can be used anywhere in the window, depending on the style of your window, it's exactly the width of the AC unit. Foam is used to keep it in place and they provide plenty of it, also a few brackets for the variety of window installation possible. I love that I have a clear view and a lot of it. So I have a Whynter AC unit with a dual hose system. Obviously I am not using this window unit for its intended purpose. That being said, it does work for this. You need a little more window seal but it works. Here is why it’s too expensive. First what looks like glass is acrylic or see through plastic. This means noise goes right through it. Secondarily the aluminum frame that mounts around the unit was coming apart. I had to glue it at the angles they originally were supposed to come together. If you’re going to pay this much at least assemble your own product correctly. Regardless of what I use it for it should come unbroken. The clear plastic is covered in a peel away plastic to protect it from scratching during delivery. The problem with this is getting it off. You need a razor blade and patience. The protective wrap extends into the aluminum frame making it difficult to pull all of it off. Other than that it sits in the window and does work. ... show more
