  • Perfect for the lazy gardener
When I saw this kit, I thought of the frequently forgotten plants on the back deck and a planter box that is difficult to reach with a hose. I ordered this because it looked like an easy solution for these problematic locations, but I was curious if it would work as well as it seemed or whether it would be complex to set up or operate. I needn't have feared. This was very easy to use, with a few small exceptions. When I received the kit, I unboxed it and reviewed its contents. Then, I glanced at the instructions. Later, I learned that I should have looked a little harder. However, I eventually figured it out. I planned to install the solar unit with a large pot of sunflowers, so I started there. Then, I placed a five-gallon bucket of water nearby. A real advantage of this kit is that you don't need any household power or water. All you need is the sun and a bucket, which you can fill from anywhere, even the eave spouting. The biggest pain was inserting the T's and spouts into the feed lines. I tried following the instructions by letting the hose soak in hot water before jamming it onto the T's, but that didn't work very well. I eventually found that the best method was to let the hose sit in the sun for a while. That worked a little, but it was still difficult. However, I managed, and the setup worked very well. On the first evening, I pressed a few buttons, and I thought I had the central unit programmed correctly. I set it for once every 24 hours, to operate for ten minutes. The unit kicked on with a quiet whirr and I was gratified to see water trickling to all my plants! Genius, I thought. No more dragging a hose around, and no more forgetting to water the plants on the back deck. It was great. I made a note of the time to check the unit's function on the following evening. It's good that I checked the unit the following evening because it didn't come on. It turned out that it wasn't the unit's fault; it was me. I looked closely at the instructions and saw that the timer function wasn't properly set. This time, I set the modes properly and watched as the display blinked three times, indicating that my preferences were saved in the memory. I noted the time again, and the following evening, I walked onto the back deck at the correct time. The unit had been running for four minutes; it was right on time, and I was late. I watched as it cycled. At ten minutes precisely, it shut off. My forgotten plants were watered, and I had to refill the bucket. That was it. I used almost all of the supplied hose to reach a planter box and route water to all the deck plants—perfect. The ten-minute cycle uses about a gallon and a half, and my plants are no longer at risk because of neglect. I love this thing! We'll see how it holds up over the summer, but for now, highly recommended. ... show more

  • More convenient than most kits
We used a couple of solar drip systems last year to water the dozens of potted deck, patio, and porch plants we put out every summer. Not only do these systems save us hours of watering time, they also saved our plants by giving them consistent water during the several heat waves we get every summer. When we got ready to put our plants out this year, we realized that the controller for one of the systems we used last year had gone AWOL. I ordered this system as a replacement and was very pleased at how much easier this one is than the others we have. For starters, this one has the solar panel and controls in one unit, making for fewer components to keep track of. Secondly, the programming buttons are right on the front of the panel; that's so much more convenient than one we have where we have to take the solar panel off the bracket to access the controls, which are on the back of the panel. Since the tubing and emitters were still in place on our back deck, we were able to just connect the tubing right into this system, fill the barrel and go. It worked perfectly right out of the box and we were able to test it for a few weeks before vacation. I'm confident that it will continue to work through the rest of the season. If it fails, I will be back to update my review. ... show more

  • Keep your outdoor potted plants watered even when you're away
This is really a great idea. When I travel for long periods, I mostly water my plants heavily on the day I leave and then hope for rain to happen in the middle of the week. Now that its been getting hotter, I find that frequent watering is the norm. I discovered this product and immediately got it. It is rated to water 30 pots, but with that you would need lots of water. I used it to water about 18 pots and filled up a 5 gallon bucket with water. That about lasted a week watering every other day. The setup of the device was slightly difficult mainly with connecting the tubing. The instructions mentioned soaking it in hot water, but that was still difficult. I read the reviews and someone mentioned letting the tubing sit on the sun for awhile. That seemed to to the trick. Once the tubing was connected via the T joints and the soaker stakes. it was a breeze to program and setup. When I got home after 10 days of vacation. My plants were still green and vibrant despite the heat. I am highly recommending this product. ... show more

  • Innovative solution to watering plants and garden!
We were planning on doing some traveling and were concerned about our small garden getting watered. We could ask a neighbor but we don't like to impose. Enter the HAILOLY Solar Powered Automatic Drip Irrigation Kit and our concerns have been resolved! Pros: 1) No water connection needed. Simply use a water container. 2) No power connection needed as a solar panel is included. 3) Supports up to 30 plants, more than enough for our garden. 4) Easy DIY installation. 5) 88 timer modes included to make programming your water schedule easy. 6) Water sensor for water shortage in container. Cons: 1) Placing the hoses onto the barb fittings can be a bit difficult. It does help somewhat to heat them up with hot water first. Conclusion: This has been a great solution and peace of mind when we go on vacation knowing that our plants will be watered while we're away. Make sure you test out the system for a while before you leave so that you know the timer mode is correct as well as the amount of water you'll need and thus the size of the water container. Would highly recommend this product! ... show more
