This gate is strong and very useful. I am showing it partially folded on my stairs. In the past, I have just used a one panel gate to block the stairs. They aren’t very stable and fall down a lot. This one is going nowhere. It comes with feet to use it completely open but I don’t need that. My dogs are very respectful of this gate and it’s easier for me to step over and it stores away better than the other ones.

So, this is getting four stars because the freestanding gate is a little too easy for animals to push it around, so I had to get creative, so my cat would quit moving it for my dog. The gate itself is a very sturdy material and was really easy to assemble. It is very attractive, and I love the height. The only downside is that on a slick floor or even a low pile carpet, the animals just push it around. I can see how it could be very useful in the right setting and to be fair, I only had to get a little creative.

Ok, so not the safest option for stairs due to potential tripping hazard. However, all the “kids” have moved out and we don’t use the upstairs much anymore. We have two mini Dachshunds that we don’t want going up and down the stairs, due to the breed being pre-dispositioned to having back issues. We also need to do some repairs to our newel post and balusters. Until we do the needed repairs, we can’t use the retractable doorway style gates. The dogs have learned how to pull down the makeshift cardboard barrier. This gate is wider than our stair case, but since it’s folding, I was able to set it up zig-zag. Our pups can easily jump over it. My brain doesn’t comprehend how a dog with three inch legs can jump so high, but they do and laugh in my face every time. Because they “can” jump over this 16 inch tall gate, I put it on the 2nd step. The dogs stuck their noses through the gate bars and looked up longingly towards the top of the stairs, but neither dog tried to jump it or pull it over. Hah! Who’s laughing now?! This gate has a decent weight, and non-skid pads on the bottom sides of the support stands. Everything about this gate looks good quality, and it’s so easy to set up, and folds up for storage. I’ve only just set this up and I already LOVE LOVE LOVE this gate!
