Its durable, 2-blade cold-and-abrasion-resistant rotor cuts a swath 18 inches wide by 8 inches deep with each pass. I live in a condominium which is supposed to take care of snow removal, but they suck at the task. There are so many units spread around the area that it often takes forever to get to our end of the road. I wanted something that would be affordable, lightweight, effective and easy to store in my very limited space. This snowblower is great for the 2 car drive and 100 feet of walkway which surrounds my unit. I can finish the job of removing 3 to 6 inches of snow in about an hour, which I couldn't have done so quickly the old fashioned way. I should mention that I'm 67 years old and rapidly reaching the "you shouldn't be shoveling" stage. This blower is so light and easy to maneuver that it makes the task much, much easier on these old bones. As I said, this blower is very lightweight and highly maneuverable, though it takes a little practice to learn how to deal with the trailing cord. I could have gone with the battery model, but that would greatly increase the price. Once you develop a pattern for dealing with the cord, the work goes quite smoothly and you're done in no time at all. The unit is light, but it clears the snow cleanly all the way to the ground (with only one pass) and will throw it a good distance away. The trick is to get out there and get it before it gets too deep. This model seems strong enough to plow through fairly deep snow, but I'd rather not spend time fighting my way through deeper and/or heavier drifts, so "smarter not harder" is the best way for me to go. Assembly out of the box is really quite simple, and for the most part, self-explanatory. I strongly suggest you give yourself enough time and room to lay all the parts out and familiarize yourself with everything (and the included instructions) before attempting to put anything together, no matter how tempting that might be. You'll need very few tools and almost no mechanical abilities whatsoever. SnoJoe has done an excellent job of making this unit extremely user-friendly and anyone who has difficulty in assembly has probably ignored step one. There is really only one "design flaw" that I have found, and other users have mentioned it as well. The snow discharge chute is held in place by only one screw and a few "locking tabs" which are really too short and too thin to effectively hold the discharge assembly in place. The chute is designed to blow the snow either straight up (zero degrees), straight out (forty-five degrees) or any angle you choose in between. I've found that what happens when you attempt to blow the snow out at the forty-five degree angle, the snow hitting the chute will pull the discharge assembly apart rather quickly. It's easy to see that the "factory fix" to this problem would be to add an additional screw (or two) to the discharge assembly, or make the locking tabs longer and/or thicker. Short of that, what I have found through trial and error is that keeping the discharge chute set at, or near, twenty-eight degrees keeps the chute in place and the operation running smoothly from beginning to end. The last thing I want to mention is that this is NOT an industrial grade unit. It is a "homeowner" grade device which will (in all probability) not stand up to heavy or careless abuse. It is made in great part of plastic and lightweight metals, much the same quality and dependability as Home Depot's Ryobi homeowner line. I find either one of them to be affordable, dependable and cost-effective at my level of use. Bottom line, I believe that the SnoJoe I've reviewed was a very good choice. TLD: Great snowblower. I recommend. For everyone else, here we go. I saw a bunch of comments about this snowblower that were neutral or negative so I figured I would address some of those in this review. Package: Great, my box was DESTROYED, like half the size it should be, but the unit was untouched and all was well. Assembly will be required, but this is very straightforward and should be done, depending on skill level, 5 to 20 minutes. Storage: Since the unit will spend most of it's life not being used, I figured I would include this. I have a 2 and half car garage, but it always feels like it is tight and fills up with stuff quickly. This unit is great because the handle folds down on top of it's self and it is, for what it is, super light weight. I tuck this unit up next to my car and when it snows, I pull the folded unit out with one hand, bringing it over the cars trunk. When it's not snowing, I put it on the deep in wall shelf. Big bonus point here that gas powered units can not do. Operation: I have read a lot of good and bad reviews here on the operation, so lets put this into a couple different keys areas. Power- This thing has plenty of that. I was actually pretty impressed with how well this unit was able to muscle in. On the last snow (over a foot), I started to push the unit further and further, deeper and deeper. It did above what I expected, but stopped short of being able to handle snow frozen and packed by a snow plow (understandable). Throwing- This is an area people seem to have a problem. What you have to remember is that this is not a self propelled unit. You have to push it. The more snow that's getting shoved in it's face, the more umph it will have to throw. On a mid level snow day, I figured I was throwing snow about 5-10 feet provided I kept the pace behind it to keep it fed. Others complained about the neck breaking (didn't have problems with mine and don't see an issue) and snow clogging. Snow will build up on the top of the unit and will start to slowly block it's exit, but a quick tilt back and drop knocks all the snow off fine. I do noticed the inside of the assembly is slightly rough and I guess could lead to clogging, but haven't had this remotely happen to me. Other- The light looks kind of like an afterthought on the overall design, but is actually really nice to have when you are doing those late night runs. Make sure you have a good extension cord. In the right gauge mind you. Robbing the motor of the proper power due to a too small gauge extension cord can and will lead to premature failure. This is something to consider when buying the unit. A 100 ft wire in 12 gauge can run you about $70- $150. I had already had one so this was a none issue for me. Conclusion: I love this little unit. Anyway you slice it. It has all the power that I think I would need for a general year to year. I did have to pull the shovel out to handle stubborn areas and the small areas I couldn't reach because I ran out of extension cord, but I expected that. Being able to easily pack this thing up, lift it with one hand and store on a shelf makes my life easy where in comparison, I can't even have a gas blower because I don't have an area to store it for the 10 months I'm not using it. The rubber blades do have me a little worried about the life, especially if you really push the unit. Honestly the only thing I don't like about using this thing is having to hook up the extension cord, but that's not the fault of the unit. It is however something to consider before buying a plug in electric blower. For me, already having the right cords (saving $100) and power outlets at the overhead, it works. Annoying sometimes, but works. Recommend getting a bright colored cord, so it doesn't get sucked up in the snow. Also, and cold weather outdoor one is a must. Non cold weather cords will get super stiff, hard to work with and will begin to crack. ... show more
