  • Understand what you're getting
It probably helps that I grew up with a push mower! We never had anything else, and it was our chore to mow the lawn. But this one seems good. Blades are sharp, everything functions as expected! It's a workout to use - like any push mower! The grass basket fills up fast, but you can push the grass to the back of the basket and fit more in that way. The mower is only 16 inches wide, which means the grass basket is similarly narrow. So overall, definitely on the smaller side. It won't mow through everything. Thick sticks, etc - but this doesn't phase me, and it was always our chore to clean up all the sticks before we mowed as children too. I think that's just how push mowers are. (It will mow through small twigs.) Our lawn is probably 5000 sq ft, and that is kind of pushing it for this mower, in terms of size. This push mower would probably be more appropriate for a more compact lawn. However, it does get the job done! It seems to function very well. It just is a push mower, and it is relatively small. ... show more

  • It really doesn't work
This is the third hand-push mower we've purchased in the last ~10 years or so. The first was simply a joy to use (sorry, can't recall the brand) -- possibly even easier to push than a gas mower, and nice and quiet. We then gave it away when we made a long-distance move. The second one we bought in ~2014. It was cheaper than the first but still worked pretty well, even when the blades started to dull a bit. Again, we gave it away when we moved. This one was an abomination! It was really easy to put together, but the handle wobbled and seemed very poorly fit. We tried a number of slight adjustments in the bolts to see if we could fix the issue, but nothing seemed to work. In addition I had reservations about the flimsy plastic roller used to adjust the cut height. We followed the instructions with pieces of paper to get the blades adjusted just right. Then we took it outside. Neither of us could push it more than about 5 feet before it would seize. We tried going back & forth, but we could never get it to continue. After about 15 minutes of fussing and making adjustments we finally had to admit we'd bought a piece of junk. I need to find the website that rated this thing so highly and find out what the hell they were thinking. There are much better hand-push mowers out there. MUCH better. This particular design belongs on the scrap heap. ... show more

  • ... every two weeks and sometimes they don't do a good job. They finish in less than 15 minutes ...
I have a small back yard and am paying a yard man to come mow every two weeks and sometimes they don't do a good job. They finish in less than 15 minutes and charge me. So.... I bought this manual mower thinking it would be great to be able to do my own yard and get exercise as well. My sister-in-law put it together for me and we mowed the lawn together the first time. The grass was a bit higher than normal due to yard man not coming for over 2 weeks. But if you push and pull through the tall grass it gets through it and on the shorter grass works great! Like taking a brisk walk. The grass catcher does not work well. Was in the way and first time we took it off to dump it came loose and dumped the grass on the ground. From that point on didn't use the grass catcher and that is better. Just order a manual edger to go with it! If us feeble "old ladies" can do it anybody can! ... show more

  • Works really well if you are willing to put in the muscle.
I only have gas-powered mowers to compare it to, but it cut relatively tall grass. It took some work, yes. I worked up a sweat, yes. But it's much appreciated exercise, environmentally friendly, and the yard looks fine. Don't be a wimp.

  • 6 months review.
If you’re afraid of hard labor then don’t buy it. That said, it’s easy to use after you get the hang of it. The protecting handle ripped 2 months into using it. The grass collector bag is starting to lose its grip so that feels like a waste of money. It was easy to put together. Careful, the blades won’t cut the lawn if a rock or sticks gets stuck in it. Please wear gloves, I cut myself because I was stupid to think I didn’t need them to mow the lawn. ... show more

  • Please get a different push mower!!!
The morning I was taking my gas powered lawnmower in the shop, I made a hasty decision and purchased this product before reading the reviews in light of the 4 star average rating. I wanted a back up mower for the 1-2 times/year that my lawnmower needs servicing. This product wouldn't take up extra space in my garage either, yay! And yay for exercise and environmental friendliness!!! The product arrived a day earlier than expected. The packaging was great, assembly was great! (So there are the 2 stars) The only height setting that even seems feasible is the high setting as you will have zero lawn left on the lowest setting,(if you can get the mower to work at all on the lowest setting). I think that maybe the bolts on the wheels could be adjusted, but they are very hard to get to and not mentioned in the instructions as a way to adjust the height. I haven't been able to get the bolts off, and you're risking cutting yourself on the blades even trying to make that adjustment, well in theory as the blades are fairly dull when you get it. The high setting is absolutely scalping my lawn. I think that if the height could be better adjusted, it might help with the issues that we all are having cutting longer grass and weeds. For anyone who is buying a spare mower, we need to be able to cut grass that's not at its prime. It works great if you're cutting already cut grass. But I don't think that is what most of us are doing. I did have some success when I only tried to mow a 4 inch strip of longer grass with an already mowed section. I could get the mower to at least move when I did that. But I was still needing to back it up multiple times and re-mow that section over and over. But, I did get it to cut after a lot of effort. I wanted to really give this thing a chance after reading some of the reviews with usage guidance. IF I could get the height to where I wanted it??? Everyone is 100% accurate about it getting stuck on the tiniest of sticks. Someone mentioned 'toothpick' and I removed sticks smaller than a toothpick. This makes it incredibly difficult to use. Everyone is correct about the blade not being sharp out of the box. I think that if the blade was sharp and didn't scrape against the metal, didn't get stuck on tiny sticks and was the proper height, I could really like this mower. I don't mind emptying the basket. If you're keeping this mower, I think that just using your hands to scoop out the grass is much easier than detaching the basket each time. And the grass won't really fly everywhere as long as you have the basket cleaned out, which needs to happen very often. This is the least of your worries though! If you are ok with the forward backward forward mowing method, you're good with removing sticks every 2-3 feet depending on how many trees are in your yard, and you're ok with an extremely low cut that may 100% fry your lawn in the summer while you're waiting for your lawnmower to get out of the shop, then this is the mower for you, otherwise, I KNOW you would be a much happier person using a weed eater on your lawn while you wait, and you can still get the upper body work out that way. ... show more
