The security cable wraps around the frame of the seat, and ensures nobody can "snatch and grab" it. I like that both safes come keyed the same, so I can put one in each car and only carry one key. In my case I keep the key in the glovebox on a keychain until I need to lock something in the safe, then it goes in my pocket. Reminds me to remove what I locked away. The safe is very sturdy and includes multiple layers of foam to keep your heavy metal items from rattling around. I've used these little metal safes for a long time. But since I had several, I gave one to a new gun-owner friend. I have one cabled into the back of my car -- which gets 'stored' in a decorative beach bag, stuck in a side caddy in the back of my mini-sport-ute. I "reassure" myself that a) that you can't SEE in through the back windows to SEE the beachbag (it scrunches up around the safe and gets stuffed into a small 'well' back there (even if yo uknow where to look, you can't see it!)... and since the cable is pretty hefty -- and I'm guessing MOST smash-and-grab car attackers DON'T carry cable-cutters (bit noticeable, yes?) ... probably okay to put my gun in the there on those VERY RARE occasions when I'm not carrying at all times! (VA Clinic, for example...) I bought two of the 'plastic' ones -- advertised as really strong and safe -- and delightfully LIGTHWEIGHT!!! But then saw a video of how VERY easy it was to pry them open... Okay, back to the heavier metal ones. Love the "same-keyed" pair of lockboxes too! What sent me off looking was the same safe currently IN the car ... {sigh} ... had the key break off IN it. (Lesson: DON'T try to force it!) Thankfully, this was AFTER I had retrieved my gun. The keys come with a number stamped on them, and I will be contacting the maker to buy a replacement. (The previous "back-up key" went off to my friend's place, cause I bought the paired set before!) You won't be storing a long gun -- or even a big handgun - - in the little lockbox -- but they're great! ... show more

The safe seems sturdy enough. The keys are weak, cheap material. One key broke off in the lock on day 2. I managed to pry out the broken part so the safe is still usable. Handle the keys gently and you'll be OK.

More guns are stolen from cars than anyplace else. This simple safe makes it difficult for a thief to get your gun without a good size bolt cutter. Wrap the cable around the seat base and stuff it under the seat. Almost as fast as the glove compartment and 50 times more secure. I have one in each car. I never leave the gun more than 5-10 minutes for the post office run and banks that are posted. Otherwise I carry it in or don't use the vendor's premises. And if the bad guy does have a bolt cutter at least you'll be able to tell the cops you did what you could and you are the good guy. ... show more
