  • Sturdy and solid… install was a thing
Putting these on was actual work. Essentially disassembling the ends to re-assemble on the roof… it challenged me - pick a cool breezy day. Also grab a towel for the parts to protect the roof and paint since that’s your workbench while installing. Lots of twisting and dropping of the wrenches up there while finagling with the parts. With so much assembling and going back and forth from side to side, it’s too easy to forget to tighten a screw or two. So go back one more time to tighten down the hatches when you think you’re done to find any stragglers who haven’t been snugged in… and that’s all of them. I know from this experience that sliding these up and down the rail when needing to adjust their position will be somewhat of an event when the time comes, and not a quickie. The bars are lockable, and if someone understands what the process of removing them entails, they won’t be bothering. The lock and its cover are the starting point to all adjustments (the tools and keys kept handy). And there’s some really useful utility tie-down loops built into the end caps. These crossbars will be holding a 64 inch roof basket. This is on a vehicle with a double moonroof, so distributing the weight as evenly as I can will have meaningful safety benefits. I was thinking a third rail would be helpful for this set up, but the bar heights were too different from the ones I pulled off, so that won’t be happening. My factory installed roof rack is rated to hold about 150 lbs. However, with a moon roof, or double moon roof as I have, it’s about 125 lbs. The cargo basket itself weights 44 lbs., and can hold up to 200 lbs. So the real number here is the 125 lbs., and how I can distribute the weight of all the cargo I add to it in a super safe way. In my research, more crossbars can potentially distribute the weight of heavier loads more evenly across the vehicle's roof, potentially allowing for a higher total weight capacity, especially for static loads like a roof-top tent. So if I was to put another crossbar on, I’d need to get the same set to achieve symmetry. And proper spacing between crossbars is also essential for stability and load distribution. So why switch out bars? These can hold 265 lbs as opposed to the 220 lbs bars I removed. And glad I did, because in comparison, these have a mechanism that solidly anchors to the roof rack, wrapping up around it… it’s not going anywhere (if all the screws got snugged up ;-). I was also removing the previous bars at the same time and one of the screws stripped. Thus, after a small injury, I took a road trip down the street to the mechanic for some tool-magic to resolve it… for the price of a hug (a tried-and-true sweetheart). I also became aware that the previous crossbar’s metal bits were beginning to rust, which had only been on the vehicle for a few months. So I know now that rust can become a thing with the hardware. ... show more

  • Solid Roof Rack Solution for the Ford Explorer
The Snailfly 265 LBS Lockable Roof Rack Cross Bars are the solution I was looking for to expand the cargo capacity on my Ford Explorer during family vacations. The bars fit securely and snugly on the rails, offering a solid base for my cargo box. I like their aerodynamic design, which doesn't add too much drag when leaving them on. The matte black finish blends seamlessly with my black Explorer. One other thing that I really like is the tie-down loops on the metal clamps. I was able to add some additional rope through these to secure the load (just in case). Another feature that these have going for them is the ability to adjust the bars forward and backward along the rails to accommodate different configurations. Although I haven't used it to haul anything other than my cargo box, I appreciate that I can use it for other purposes in the future. Finally, I like that each section locks down separately, I feel that this would make it harder for any would be thieves to take off with them. Installation took a little longer than expected, but less than an hour. While the instructions are clear, it did require disassembling and reassembling components, which was more cumbersome than I thought it would be (although it did come with a small Allen Wrench was hard to use). I would recommend taking your time while installing them and measuring it out first because adjusting the bars after installation requires unlocking and repositioning it again. Overall build quality and sturdiness of the bars make them a strong value for the price. ... show more

  • Great set
These are a great set for your roof rack. They are really strong and sturdy, they fit well and were easy to install. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, so you can be confident in your abilities. And they do not add a bunch of noise while you are driving. Most of the time you probably won't even notice they are there, but they're nice to have handy so as soon as you do need them, you're ready to go! ... show more

  • Great Roof Top Storage for Ford Explorer
Cross bars for ford explorer. Great to be able to attach a storage container to your roof. Easy to install and use. Would recommend purchasing this if you need additional storage for a trip.

  • Good for the price, but poor QC
I was really surprised at the quality and look of these for the price. They fit perfectly and were somewhat easy to install. That’s a definite plus because I don’t want to always keep them on my ST. I have a panoramic roof, and this would detract from that if I’m not hauling anything up top. I haven’t noticed any difference in outside noise when using these either. So why only 3 stars? Poor quality control. While it doesn’t affect functionality, I was disappointed to find pieces missing the black anodizing in spots. There are fine scratches all over the pieces that expose the bare metal underneath - I expect that to rust easily if not fixed. The scratches are hard to capture in a picture. I was able to get some of the missing anodizing in a photo as attached. ... show more

  • Work great and look factory
I picked these up for my 2020 ford explorer st. The package came with everything and was pretty easy to set up. I needed a ladder and a measuring tape and you can adjust them once they are on there. I found mine gripped really well and locked down fine. I really like that they are black also so they do not stand out. My car is red and black so it blends in nicely. I was able to attach my kayak on them easily and they feel sturdy. I like that they are more aerodynamic and do not make any extra sound while driving. I would pick these again if given the choice. They work great so far for me! ... show more

  • Nice set with clear instructions
I wanted to have these cross bars on hand for when I decide that I want to carry something on the roof! They come as a complete set and will store nicely until I decide to use them.
